You know what I love about Lauren Blakely's books? At the core of each novel is a strong, smart and fun woman for whom achieving professional success is not a hindrance but rather adds to her fabulousness. And yet, despite her drive and strength, the leads are not immune to the universal truths of disappointments in love. These disappointments never paralyze the lead, and she does't define herself by the disappointments. And yes, in the end of course, she overcomes and finds new love, or as in the case of Caught Up In Us, finds an old love renewed again.

Trophy Husband builds on the same path of Caught Up In Him and Pretending He's Mine, but this story builds more slowly. With each chapter the story of our heroine got stronger and a concept that first threw me a bit (hunting for a trophy husband) completely won me over as being true to the lead character and Blakely's track record of writing strong women. And yes, there is a small, but significant tie-in of characters with Caught Up In Him for those of you who are hardcore fans of Blakely.

In Trophy Husband, the story definitely lives up to the eye catching cover. I prefer not to give too much away in a review, so briefly: McKenna has a run in with her ex-fiance who left her for a much younger and um...more physically flexible...woman. Things have been going great in McKenna's career and it seems like she's almost over the ex, but then he throws a huge curve ball that reignites her pain. Enter her plan to get back, get even, get over...she'll prove that women too can have a trophy spouse...and she sets out to find one.

Yes, there are willing candidates but then one guy, who is a few years too old to be a trophy material enters the picture. Will she stick to her plan?

McKenna Bell is a young, successful woman. She is happily planning her wedding when her fiancé dumps her, by voicemail, and marries someone else, the day before the planned wedding!

Following an impromptu meeting with her ex, and his new younger wife, McKenna decides to play the field more, in a different way than usual. She decides she can play the same game men do - she can find herself a younger, sexier man to be her Trophy Husband.

Together with her female friends she comes up with a plan. She will use her successful fashion blog to post videos about her dates, her clothes choices, everything. She will allow the viewers to become part of her quest to find love, to find a man who wants to become a kept man.

What she doesn't count on is meeting a kindred spirit, Chris, in a games shop. He turns out to be as much of a games geek as she is. But he is counted out of the race from the start by his age. McKenna and her friends agreed that any potential candidates must be 23 years of age or younger.

McKenna comes up with a plan, a business plan, which will benefit both her and Chris. But can they keep it purely business? In her quest for a Trophy Husband has she, in fact, found her ideal partner? Or will her loyalty to her friends and their agreement force her to bypass her own happiness and follow through in her quest?

This is a lovely story with a lot of humour in it. The way she describes the dates McKenna goes on is hilarious at times. Yet it also has a lot of affection, as well as sexiness, in it when she describes McKenna and Chris' later dates. The author definitely pulled me into the storyline, wishing that McKenna would do what she wanted, what would make her happy, rather than follow what her friends wanted her to do.

All in all a great story with equal measures of humour and sexiness which combined make it work really well.

Trophy Husband is a great romantic comedy about getting hurt, getting even, and coming out on top. I really loved this cleverly written romance that follows McKenna as she tries to reenter the dating scene with often cringe inducing results. I couldn't help but root for her. Leave the ice cream binges and crying jags for lesser heroines in lesser books, because after having her heart shattered by a shallow ex, this woman goes out in search of her own trophy. The scenes she plays out in her head are a story all by themselves, sexy and hot, funny and irresistible.

Of course things get tangled up when sexy Chris makes his appearance. He's smoking hot, he's funny, and he's perfect. I wanted to reach through the Kindle and shake her so she'd realize it and quit looking! The chemistry between the two is just fantastic and I love every minute of this story.

For me, Lauren Blakely can do no wrong with her books and Trophy Husband just proves how right I am. The premise of the book hooked me but it was the characters, McKenna and Chris that kept me reading. I read the book in one go. Could not put it down even if I had wanted to.
We have all experienced hurt in relationships but I loved the way McKenna decided enough and went out to get what she wanted. Enter Chris who I totally fell for to the point of swooning, yes I said it, swooning!!!!!!!! The journey these characters embark on was fun and sexy and I couldn’t help but be just a little envious of McKenna.
If you are looking for something to read that will have you smiling, laughing, swooning and unable to stop turning pages then Trophy Husband is the perfect choice. I have already put it on my reread list and have no doubt I will read it over and over!!!!!!
Lauren Blakely, I cannot wait for whatever else you have in store for us!!!!!!!
5/5 stars from me and I would give it more if that were an option.
