Ashley and Jaquavis did it again with The Trophy Wife. This book tells the story of a forbidden love between London and Kalil. She is married and he is a convicted felon who just got out of jail from serving a 4 year bid. He vows to leave the streets alone for the sake of his daughter, Jada. But when he gets fired from his 9 to 5 job he is once again lord into the street...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Trophy Wife
It was good book. I really enjoyed it. The ending made me want to cry. However there is another book by the same authors with the same title and I think they are the exact same book, so becareful purchasing this item. You don't want to purchase the same book twice.

Kalil's story begins when he is released from prison following a drug possession conviction. Passionate about his young daughter and being an integral part of her life, Kalil is determined to lead a straight life with a legitimate job. Kalil soon finds out that his mission will be very difficult to pursue.

With the help of his loyal cousin, Kalil begins to piece his life back together. The most important part of this equation is Jada, Kalil's young daughter. Due to circumstances surrounding Jada's home life, Kalil decides to raise her on his own. Unfortunately for Kalil, a 9-to-5 job doesn't fit into his current situation, and the streets call him back. Kalil involves a notorious kingpin named Hova when he returns to the streets. With Hova's connections, Kalil obtains the resources to reclaim his name on the streets, but ironic occurrences change Kalil's plans and he quickly finds himself in an unexpected position.

While involving himself in Jada's school life, Kalil meets Jada's dance instructor, London. London is a foreign beauty who is married to an extremely abusive and controlling man. Kalil and London quickly bond, but soon find themselves in grave danger. Kalil, London, and Jada encounter life or death situations, and their time together begins to tick away.

THE TROPHY WIFE starts with a very unique prologue, and the tale takes off from there. Although some of the pertinent background history about the main characters was missing, the story's plot is clear. Ashley and JaQuavis are two authors known for their captivating stories, and they did not disappoint with this read.

Find out if London and Kalil find true love or will he be another statistics to the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) Love & Hate, April 7, 2008
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Paperback)
Kalil can already taste his freedom, as it has been four long years since he's been down. While Kalil may have been a bona fide boss in the streets, he's already made it up in his mind that those days are long gone. Kalil's main focus is on making up for all of the missed time with his baby girl Jada. Unknowingly, Kalil is shocked beyond his wildest imagination as he learns that the love he assumed was waiting for him may belong to someone else.

London is stuck in an empty, abusive, and loveless marriage. While she may have high fashions, jewels and a luxurious auto, her heart is cold and empty. London has always wanted to dance, but her husband has kept a tight reign on everything, treating London more like a possession rather than his wife.

When Kalil stumbles upon London, sparks immediately fly and he knows instantly that she is without a doubt his other half. London is married, yet she yearns for another man. Can this love affair make it?

Ashley & JaQuavis are up to book number four, and like so many before them, they are now characters inside of their latest novel The Trophy Wife. Admittedly, I loved the title but felt as though a lot was missing. In certain places, the story just didn't add up, and I was sick to death of the redundancy. I wanted so much more from the characters and the story. This is a story that is being filtered over and over again in the hood. In my opinion, if you're going to attempt to tackle it, then it's time that someone douses it with their own special blend. With a duo, especially ones on book four, I expected more! Double eyes should lessen the mishaps and multiply the surprise. Where was the imagination? I hope that the conclusion, The Cartel, rejuvenates this story.

I have read all of Ashley & JaQuavis' novels and I have got to say that this is just a good read for these authors. I really enjoyed this book but there were some unanswered questions for me with this one. All their other books -- I would give a 5 star rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ashley & JaQuavis are at it again...genius!, March 14, 2008
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Paperback)
OMG! I have followed these authors since their first book Dirty Money and let me say that they have not disappointed me yet. The Trophy Wife is their fifth book and they brought the heat to the kitchen once again.
In this story I fell in love with Khalil and London. This hood story kept me glued from beginning to end. I almost gave up on urban fiction because all of the stories were sounding exactly the same, but this dynamic writing team has restored my faith in the urban books. The storyline was unique, untold, and refreshing; and the characters! The characters were out of this world! My heart was beating out of my chest on each page. If you have not read this book, what the h*ll are you waiting for! Go get it! Go get two and pass one on to a friend because it was just that good. It made me laugh, cry, smile, and fall in love with reading all over again. It is a ********** star book with a phenomenal plot. I read online that it is being turned into a movie. I hope rumor was true because I will be the first one in line. Bravo and Encore to Ashley & JaQuavis. I can not wait until The Cartel Series comes out. The teaser in the back left me wanting more. Hurry, hurry, hurry! Your fans are waiting.
