Good story, too bad I can't say the same for the editing,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Hardcover)
I bought The Trophy Wife based its recommendation as a great beach read and, on a recent vacation, it proved to be just that. The plot was complex enough to hold my interest and the characters were well developed. The ending was truly a surprise. I must comment however, on the typos as mentioned by a previous reviewer - they were frequent and distracting. There were so many mistakes that I began to wonder if they were made purposely to throw the reader off track as to the true identity of "Diana Diamond" (what serious mystery writer would allow publishing of such a poorly edited book!). If you plan to buy it, I recommend waiting for the paperback edition.

The trophy wife,

This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Hardcover)
When I read a review of this book I ran out and purchased it immediately. What a disapointment- the writing style is so simplistic- there are so many typographical errors- wasn't there an editor, or did they just use spellcheck? As for the plot, predictable, predictable, predicatable. We are all familiar with trophy wives- nothing learned here. I believe the writer should maintain the fictitious authorship - they wouldn't want to tarnish their reputation. Thumbs down.

A very good Read!,

Everyone seems suspect in the kidnapping of Emily Childs, and Diamond keeps you guessing throughout this suspenseful novel. A surprising (but fitting) ending will leave readers satisfied (and wondering who Diana Diamond really is!)

I have certainly read better thrillers,
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Hardcover)
Someone recommended me this novel. It seemed promising at first, and I have to admit that it has some clever moments, but it has missed the mark. The mystery isn't, well, mysterious, for I was able to figure out the outcome sooner than I would have wanted to. The story of a banking executive whose wife has been kidnapped for a ransom of $100 thousand moments before he had intended to leave her for a younger-looking model seems like the perfect plot for a Hollywood film starring Harrison Ford. However, it made for a mediocre read. Need I mention the typos and grammatical errors in this book? I am glad to see that other readers duly noted the structural errors in the book. Are you in the market for a clever thriller? Read Nicci French's Beneath the Skin.

I don't know why 'Diana Diamond' didn't use her real name for this book -- unless she feared it might keep us away from her 'real' work. I didn't much care for this book, as I found nothing compelling about any of the characters. In one way or the other, they were all spoiled by their success, money and possessions. I couldn't even be very sympathetic to Emily, the kidnapped spouse, because she herself was cheating. One of the characteristics of a crafty mystery writer is his/her ability to keep the reader guessing 'who done it'. In this case, I figured out the 'bad' guy way too soon. All in all, not a very satisfying read. Too bad, because the premise had promise...just not in THIS author's hands.

Can I just say where were the editors??,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Paperback)
I have never read a book with so many typos and grammatical errors. One must certainly allow for human error even in the publishing of books, but this was just GROSS.I gave this book two stars instead of one because it did hold my attention -- I finished it in two days. But the characters were disappointing. I hate reading books that don't have even one admirable character. And the predictable ending was trite, not "explosive." The good guys (or gals) were no better than the bad when it was all said and done. Ugh.

Diamond disappoints with this dismal book,
By Kinsey Millhone (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Hardcover)
I read this book because the publicity material compared it to Olivia Goldsmith, one of my all-time favorites. Unfortunately, "The Trophy Wife" has NONE of the humor and humanity of Goldsmith's work. This book is a dud -- I'm not surprised the author is using a pseudonym. The only reason I finished it was because of the promised explosive "surprise ending," but even that was a letdown (I figured it out partway through the book). I love a yummy, trashy summer read, but this book was just a mishmash of unlikable characters and implausible plotting. I must also note that I have never read a book with so many typos; if I'd actually purchased this book instead of borrowing it from the library, I think I would've demanded a refund!

Predictable and TERRIBLE Editing,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Paperback)
I found this book to be too predictable. Like another reviewer said, it was hard to feel sympathy for the wife because she was painted as somewhat negative from the beginning. Even though the story leaves a lot to be desired, the editing is absolutely AWFUL. The typos and other mistakes were extremely distracting. Otherwise, I would have given the story a marginal two stars.

This was my first suspense novel; I was very pleased. The story line kept me intrigued. The editing could have been better, but overall, I loved it and I do recommend this book.

Particulary annoying book,
By Ellen b (Long Island United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Trophy Wife (Paperback)
The spelling and grammatical errors were so horrendous in this book that I felt it was a total insult to the reader. No wonder the author wants to remain anonymous! Some scenes were so overwritten that I skimmed many pages until I could see that the story line began moving again. I guess I probably missed even more mistakes. Obviously, someone was asleep at the switch when this book got published. Who is the real author anyway? I need to know so that I can avoid her future books.
