Book Description

June 1, 1997
Andrew MacLauchlan, one of the country's most eminent dessert and pastry chef, enables you to create your own delicious and beautiful desserts with the luscious and exotic fruits of the tropics such as guava, papaya, mango, carambola (star fruit), and much more. The book also includes delicious recipes using more common (but still tropical) ingredients such as bananas, lemons, limes, vanilla, pineapple, and coconut, which are available just about everywhere. Tropical Desserts dispels the myth that delicious desserts are difficult to prepare - with recipes for quick breads, muffins, brownies, and cookies, anyone who desires a tropical dessert can create one. With over 30 gorgeous color photographs of Andrew MacLauchlan's fantastic creations, Tropical Desserts is as much fun to read as it is to use.

This review is from: Tropical Desserts: Recipes for Exotic Fruits, Nuts, and Spices (Hardcover)
For one who loves fruits and nuts, and with the growing availability of exotic fruits, this book is a winner. With the author's experience at Trotter's and Coyote Cafe, this guy is good. Some are simple and others quite complex, but each fulfills its promise of delivering uniqueness and packed flavor. From soups to breads to puddings, this is a great dessert resource. Too bad, it's out of print. Great addition to a food lovers collection.

This review is from: Tropical Desserts: Recipes for Exotic Fruits, Nuts, and Spices (Hardcover)
If you love tropical/exotic fruit and love to bake, then this book is for you. It starts out with a brief description of exotic fruits such as feijoa, longans, and kiwano melons. The book is divided into cold and warm desserts. Some recipes include: tropical nut brittle ice cream, white chocolate tropical torte, warm persimmon tart, green-mango-green- apple pie, and Asian pear-banana coffee cake. This book is a delight along with its recipes!
