From Library Journal
Sutherland, the author of several books on family vacations, has written an ordinary guide to vacationing with children. The first chapter, "Planning the Trip," includes tips on when to go, saving on transportation, lodging, food and recreation, children's programs, packing, health, safety, and fun. The next four chapters cover four regions, subdivided by specific areas, such as Miami, the Everglades, Oahu, and Barbados. Hawaii and the Caribbean each has its own section, as does Mexico (the Mayan Riviera, the Pacific Coast, and Baja California). Each section lists hotels and motelsAexpensive, moderate, and cheap; descriptions of the accommodations, prices, and programs; and "What To See and Do" listings. As might be expected, the places listed are the usual tourist resorts that everyone can easily get to but hold little interest for the discriminating traveler. With that caveat, the diligent family vacation planner could put this book to good use. Half-heartedly recommended for large public libraries.AGeorge M. Jenks, Bucknell Univ., Lewisburg, PA
