2.0 out of 5 stars Can I Get a New Heroine?
This was the first St. Claire book that I've read. After hearing so much "buzz" about her Bullet Catchers, I came across this book and decided to start at the beginning of her career. I have to honest, I wasn't all that impressed.

Here are my complaints:
1. Ava Santori
2. Ava Santori
3. Ava Santori
(sorry if I'm being redundant)...

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid debut, September 1, 2005
This review is from: Tropical Getaway (Mass Market Paperback)
Her brother Marco was lost and presumed dead. He'd been second mate on the Paradisio, a sailing ship that disappeared when Hurricane Carlos hit the Caribbean. Although she hadn't spoken to or seen him in five years, Ava had always hoped to bridge their estrangement someday. When a lawyer contacts her alleging the ship's owners were at fault for putting the lost crew at risk, Ava heads down to St. Barts to get answers from Marco's boss, Dane Erickson.

To Dane Erickson Utopia Adventures was more than a business, it was his family. However, even as he mourns the loss of the twenty-one crew members of the Paradisio, including his best friend Marco Santori, Dane knows many will look to blame him. Knowing of Marco's split from his family, Dane wonders if Ava Santori's presence on St. Barts is motivated by a need to know the truth or greed.

Wanting to discover the details of the new life her brother had created for himself, Ava accepts Dane's invitation to stay and explore Utopia's fleet. Distrust soon turns to romance, but it soon becomes evident that something illegal is going on. Will Dane and Ava uncover the truth before they become victims of foul play?

Roxanne St. Claire's debut is a steamy mixture of intrigue, passion and red herrings. Dane comes across as a hero too good to be true, but he certainly has the flair to carry it off. Ava is the more complex character as she suffers from a combination of grief, guilt and a need for vengeance over Marco. Set in the exotic locales of the Caribbean, TROPICAL GETAWAY is the perfect escape for a cold winter night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying, thanks to Marco Santori, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Tropical Getaway (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel hits the ground running and really satisfies. Marco Santori is, of course, a favorite character. Not one-dimensional, but not so complicated as to be off-putting. In my mind, Marco Santori is tall with longer hair... kind of a 'thing about him' that a casual observer couldn't just put his finger on. But that's the wonderful thing about fiction, isn't it? Marco can be just about whomever you want him to be. And that's the great thing about St. Claire's fiction. She can take a character like Santori and use him as the perfect mirror for all the others.

Aside from Santori, the novel has a spectacular ending that I won't give away. Is Marco Santori part of it? Responsible for it? Or is Marco just a pawn in larger scheme? This is a great read. I'd recommend the whole bullet catcher series, in fact: Kill Me Twice (The Bullet Catchers, Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trip to Paradise! Awesome new book!, February 13, 2003
By
This review is from: Tropical Getaway (Mass Market Paperback)
Stop your world when you reach for this divine debut book, a pure pleasure to read. I was transported to paradise from the first page across the twists and turns to the heart pounding end -- and I am aching for a sequel! What a joy to meet characters as courageous and gusty as Ava, as compassionate -- and passionate -- as Dane, with conversations and reactions so real, they touch your heart. Their appealing love story is surrounded by several layers of wonderful mini-characters, like the housekeeper, and sweet, strong Cassie, so intriguing, she could be the next book!
Tropical Getaway's pace is blistering and riddled with twists from the belly of the boat to beautiful St. Bart's. But above all, it is a beautiful story of lovers meant to be together in spite of the storms at sea.
This is a remarkably well-written story with all the elements that keep you hooked.
I want to head for the Caribbean, I want to meet them, I want to find Dane! I want to read more of this new author.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is romantic suspense at it's best!, February 12, 2003
This review is from: Tropical Getaway (Mass Market Paperback)
Ava Santori has waited five years to hear from her brother Marco. And when word finally comes, it isn't good ...Marco is presumed dead, lost at sea during a hurricane in the Caribbean. Determined to find out what went wrong, and also encouraged by attorney Grayson Boyd, who stands to make a killing off this disaster at sea, Ava heads to the island of St. Barts.

Dane Erikson is the owner of the luxurious Utopia Adventures cruise line, and challenges Ava to help discover what went wrong with the doomed ship, rather than side with the scum ball attorney. Ava blames Dane for wanting to cash in on millions off this disaster, and also for sending the doomed "Paradisio" into the eye of the storm. Dane blames Ava for not being a good sister to Marco, and cannot understand why she never got in touch with him for 5 years. The continual misunderstandings between these two finally turns into a mutual concern to put the past behind them, and work together to solve the mystery of the doomed ship.

What happens along the way is awesome. Dane is one of the most engaging heroes ever, and when he and Ava finally get together, the sensual fireworks ignite. There are many twists and turns in the plot that will keep you guessing right up to the end. The author takes the time to bring this entire story to conclusion, and leaves nothing out. When most books would have ended, the publisher generously commits enough pages to bring everything to closure. This book has it all - Kudos to this wonderful new author!

Wow!! I really loved this book. The story is fast paced and keeps you riveted from page one. Dane is an AWESOME hero. Very sexy, and some of his lines made me shiver. I loved him. Ava is fun and fiesty. Her brother, Marco's story line is beautifully done. I definately recommend Tropical Getaway and can't wait to read Roxanne St. Claire's next book.

This review is from: Tropical Getaway (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down once I started it. The story has twists and surprises and a sexy romance too. The characters are rich in texture and the description of the Caribbean made me feel I was there as I read. I can't wait for Roxanne St. Claire's next book to come out!!

This is a fun read. It starts out great , shows real promise, but just misses. The charachters, especially Ava and Dane, are welldrawn and make you want to keep reading. There is some suspense but its weak and I would call this adventure rather than suspense. The descriptions of the islandsand the people make it worth reading.
