5.0 out of 5 stars great bird sounds
I bought this CD to keep my blue-headed (crested) Amazon parrot company during the day while I'm at work or while I am doing work at home. She absolutely loves it. She calls back and talks to the birds. She listens actively and clearly enjoys the sounds. This is the most rewarding $3 I've spent in a long time. It makes me really happy to know that she's is entertained...

3.0 out of 5 stars not relaxing
I put this CD on hoping for help relaxing, but turned it off after only a few minutes, because it was not helping. It would have been fine except for one insistent bird call that ruined the whole effect. It was as if you were there in the jungle hearing all these sounds like an orchestra, but just a few feet away is this raucous, discordant, racket disrupting the whole...

5.0 out of 5 stars great bird sounds, February 5, 2007

I bought this CD to keep my blue-headed (crested) Amazon parrot company during the day while I'm at work or while I am doing work at home. She absolutely loves it. She calls back and talks to the birds. She listens actively and clearly enjoys the sounds. This is the most rewarding $3 I've spent in a long time. It makes me really happy to know that she's is entertained when no one is home. I will say though that some of the calls on the CD are loud and this isn't a particularly soothing CD. I wouldn't really enjoy doing my yoga practice to this CD.

I have visited and lived tropical areas before, and I thought that the sounds were very realistic. Naturally, you wouldn't find these sounds all happening at once. They are spliced together smoothly to make the cd have continuous sound. I didn't feel like the rain sounds were entirely authenic during a section of the CD, but they were soothing and enjoyable.

Fantastic relaxing sounds. Shut your eyes and you can feel you are under the canopy of the rain forest...wide variety of bird calls, monkeys, etc.....you can just feel it's morning in the jungle and life is celebrating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Bird Sounds, January 19, 2005

Tropical birds do make odd sounds. That is what so great about
tropical rain and bird sounds, the fact that they do not sound
like the backyard birds you hear everyday. Some birds really
do screech, and make crazy sounds. One parrot in your house can
drive you nuts, what would a hundred or a thousand in the trees
be like? However, authentic bird sounds are the reason to get
a bird record and this has them. Many local birds go to the
tropics in the wintertime, so some of them do show up in recordings. The tropical world is a totally different world from
what we in the U.S. are used to, and it is a treat to hear what
such a strange place is like, all the sounds that make it exciting and different.

It would have been fine except for one insistent bird call that ruined the whole effect. It was as if you were there in the jungle hearing all these sounds like an orchestra, but just a few feet away is this raucous, discordant, racket disrupting the whole thing. If this particular sound had been blended with the others instead of so much louder it probably would have been okay. I haven't listened to the whole thing so maybe it improves in later sections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, March 30, 2007

I like the CD. It is very relaxing. I wish there were more rain sound effects, though. When the rain starts, it's really nice but then it ends too quickly and goes back to the nature sounds.

3.0 out of 5 stars Careful What You Buy! - Do animals really make these sounds?, September 21, 2003

MAYBE SOMEWHAT LONG, BUT INFORMATIVE, I THINK

This is my 1st CD with Tropical sounds. I have one with rain and thunder and no music(Relaxing with Nature: Thunderstorm - Raindrops) and I think it's Great, but I didn't feel very relaxed listening to this Relax with Tropical Rain Forest CD.

ARE THESE SOUNDS REAL? OR PEOPLE'S VOICES AND A CHILD'S SCREAMS!
Here's why:
I do like that this almost 60 minute CD, has no music; however, after the 1st part of the CD, some of the animal (I'm thinking bird) sounds were too loud. Throughout several parts of the CD, it sounded like there were geese, yes Geese (do they live out there too?), right next to you squawking in your ear. Now I don't know what all the birds are suppose to sound like, but during a few parts in the CD it sounded as if there was a tape playing of people talking really fast. Like someone recorded people talking regularly and then fast-forwarded the voices on the tape so their voices are talking really fast and in a high-pitched, squeaky voice, and then they played their speeded up voices as an animal sound. I tried to listen closely to find out if this was true and tried to make out what they were saying, but I had no luck. A few other times it sounded as thought there was a tribe conversing in the background, who knows, maybe there really was one back there. I also didn't like the animal (maybe a monkey or a bird) that sounded like a little girl screaming; it was a very realistic, high-pitched, blood-curtailing screaming sound.

Why is it when there are only a few things that you don't like about something they're the parts that are the loudest and really stand out the most and you can't get them out of your head? I did, however, like the raining parts and the animal sounds during most of the raining parts.

Again, I don't know much about the tropical birds, animals, or forest and this could very well be a legitimate recording of animal and nature sounds, but even if these are the real thing, I didn't care too much for some of the animal sounds. I certainly couldn't get any sleep listening to this CD and that's the main reason I bought it.

I do love nature so maybe I should try a CD with the "woods" instead of the "rain forest." Anyone know of any or have a good suggestion--with no music though?

I gave it an average 3-star rating (right in the middle) because I wasn't very satisfied with some of the animal sounds, but I have no other tropical cd's to compare it to. I guess that's what you get for a $2 cd (+ $3 ship), but if I knew what this CD was going to be like before I bought it, I would have gladly paid a few extra bucks for a CD that I would actually like. Hope this helps! As of right now, I'm not sure if I want to keep this CD or not, if I do keep it I know it won't get listened to very often.

I have about a half dozen cd's that are just sounds of nature, with no music. This is one of them, and a good one at that. I have a couple of parrots, and they love the cd. I think it's one of the better ones.
