I you like folksy and celtic or middle ages sounding music, this fits the bill.

I've always loved Loreena singing "The Bonny Swans", but "Penelope's Song" has become a more recent favorite of mine.

If you don't own any live recordings of Loreena's music, I highly recommend this one.

Well what can one say about the wonderful Loreena McKennit that hasn't already been said? She has a beautiful, ethereal voice that is made for celtic / worldly music. This live recording from a radio station studio consists of three musicians and the recordings are just wonderful. I bought the mp3's from another music store as amazon doesn't sell them for some reason (yet).

The tracks on the album are of the "greatest hits" variety and you may already have them, but you don't have them like this. The difference with this recording is the sense of intimacy here. The other live records you can buy have different acoustics, those are mainly in large spacious halls where as these feel very "up close" and personal. I believe the instruments used here are cello, harp and guitar but I also hear some keyboards.

Her voice is powerful, clear and an instrument all on its own. If you don't own any live recordings of Loreena's music, I highly recommend this one.

I recently picked up Troubadours On the Rhine from my local library. I can honestly say that I am glad I didn't spend money on this live album. I do love that Troubadours On the Rhine has a live, intimate quality to the sound but does the public really need another live album from Loreena McKennitt? IMHO I don't think so. I love Loreena's voice and the talents of Brian Hughes and Caroline Lavelle however I feel like she needs to put a moratorium on the live albums. It just seems unnecessary but if she insists on putting live albums I wish she would be daring and chose lesser known songs. I hope the next album she puts out is an album with new material.

In its own way, I can only liken this to much earlier settings by musical icons such as Oscar Peterson's "Exclusively for my Friends". It proves with utter conviction that you are in the presence of consummate artistry and storytelling. If you are not familiar with Lorenna, this is an exceleent place to start; if you are familiar, for what else could you possibly be waiting?

I love everything Loreena McKennitt does and "Troubadours on the Rhine" is another exceptional recording. Unlike her previous live CD's, this one is more intimate in that she is accompanied only by Brian Hughes and Caroline Lavelle, two of her regular touring members. Nonetheless, her songs on this CD retain that complex and ethereal quality that is distinctly Loreena. Her vocals as always are equisitely beautiful, but I was especially impressed by the musical reproduction of her songs by this trio. I've always loved Loreena singing "The Bonny Swans", but "Penelope's Song" has become a more recent favorite of mine. The epic "The Lady of Shalott" is also inluded. This is a grand performance from the woman who is the absolute best ever!!

As much as I love Loreena, and I do, (I own all of her CDs,) this is just another rehash of the same old material. Her fans hunger for new songs. I understand that every performance is a retelling, but we all know the tales by heart. Please use that amazing creativity to produce some new compositions.

As a connoisseur of Celtic music this is my fourth visit to Loreena's music. I love the way she has reinterpreted some of her earlier tunes and and some well know Irish music. I loved the way her performance of Wind That Shakes The Barley, Parting Glass and Down By The Sally Gardens help bring the words, usually buried under instrumental sound, into clearer to light so that the story and meaning of what is sung is more easily heard and appreciated. The pop guitar accompaniment of Bonny Swans is even better than her prior version. However, I have yet to warm to some of her new originals.

Revised to a 5 from a three after comment below my original...

Original - It is a nice CD, but a number of repeat songs I have on several other CDs. Not sure I would have bought the whole thing, I should have gotten the few new songs off of iTunes.

I am an extreme Loreena McKenitt fan and have almost all of her recordings. As a result, this album duplicated much of what I already have. Still good music, though. She undoubtedly has the most outstanding female voice among celtic and afro-celtic musicians.
