I own each of these novels and each is better than the last. I am sad to think someone could leave a review saying these books were, "too graphic for a Christian novel." Love, kissing, or sex, within the realm of marriage is not distasteful. It is beautiful. I believe as always Gist handles the topic with grace and dignity!

I LOVE Deann Gist. I was very excited when I ordered this thinking it was a new book. It is not. It is simply three books printed in one hardback book. I wish I would have realized this and I would not have made the purchase. Great book to buy as long as you do NOT already have the 3 books. :)

It makes me sad to see the low star reviews from people who love her books but were disappointed to discover this is an omnibus (3-in-1) edition of books they already have. Read the description and look at the book cover people! Silly, my goodness!

Now... my thoughts on the books within this book.

A Bride Most Begrudging

'Eh. I had heard so much about this book and know several people to have read it and loved it and was expecting something extravagant, but it was just kinda okay. I read it in two days, so obviously it kept my interest. There were two or three chapters toward the end that were a fabulous read, but overall I felt that there could have been just so much more, but I guess I realize that this was the author's first book and could account for some, but I dunno. I did like it, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't the best of all the religious Christian Fiction that I have read.

Courting Trouble

anyone, male or female, all should read it
review I am very much so looking forward to the sequel of this book! Sometimes there are topics that people who have experience certain things are hurting terribly to tell someone to get opinions and help in a way, but the policies of society closes their mouths and keeps them alone in thought. Essie is a girl that is getting to a spinster age and wants nothing to do with it and seeks out herself a husband. Not only is she becoming an old maid at age 30, but she like hats, and gasp rides a bicycle (This is 1894 in Texas). Her first goal for a husband ends up getting baffled, but not before she moves onto desiring a drifter cowboy. This is where confusion and emotions play apart. I would really recommend this book for every girl and woman to read. Even men really.

A Bride Most Begrudging: I loved the subject, the development, and the length. Incredibly descriptive, Gist pulls the reader in and makes the story come alive. You will understand and feel for both the main characters, and will even find yourself thinking about your own self. You will challenged spiritually about your level of trust in the Lord, as you are entertained with this lovely historical fiction romance. It's got it all. This is not a fluffy, corny book. This is not cliche. This book is one of a kind.

However... the following 2 books in this series I do not recommend at all. They were not just my least favorite Gist books, but some of my least favorite books ever. Perhaps that is because I have always enjoyed Gist's books above any others and I expected more from these... I hated the first, but bought the second just in case it would redeem the first. And it didn't.

I did not like the main character, and ended up liking characters that later turned out to be bad. It was as if Gist was tricking me. But not on purpose. I felt pity for the all the characters and didn't put it down feeling better about anything. Very poor story line. Very poor development.

I do not suggest buying this book. Instead, buy a Bride Most Begrudging on it's own and enjoy! The 3 stars are for that book alone.

Good price for 3 books in 1. Hadn't read Deeane Gist before but it came recommended. I will give each book a review under their actual titles as I think that's easier. Deeane Gist fans should be aware that this is not a new book but 3 of her previous books in 1 title.

I have now read several of Ms. Gist's books and she has become my favorite author. Her female characters are strong independent women with enough quirks to make them real, her male characters are irritating and pig headed but also fair, honest and true. Her stories are inspirational, Christ centered and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend them to readers of all ages from preteen to golden age.

Gist's fast paced novel follows the life of an English Lady taken against her will to Virginia. As she faces her change of circumstances, the reader also gains a quick lesson in the good and terrible within the history of plantation life. This is not for the weak of heart, has touches of melodrama, but our hero is a lovely woman.
