Book Description

November 21, 2008
Mild-mannered Sarah McInnes just wants to be left alone. She’s looking forward to finishing graduate school and then working a nice, normal nine-to-five job as an accountant. But when fate interferes with her carefully laid plans in the form of the mysterious and sexy Dorian, her life takes an unexpected detour. Dorian is a take-no-prisoners kind of guy. For him, duty comes first. So when he intervenes one night to save Sarah from the murderous hands of a daemon and discovers she has the innate ability to fight them, he of course steps in and offers to train her. Daemons notwithstanding, the job would be much easier and their relationship less complicated if Dorian didn’t also happen to be the hottest thing this side of hell. Now instead of spending her nights in the library Sarah spends them with Dorian, keeping the city safe from monsters and sending them back where they belong. Whether she wants to or not, Sarah has to face the facts: daemons exist, she possesses the power to kill them, and she may never make it to Calculus on time again. That’s the Trouble with Destiny...

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Hearts from TRS!, November 16, 2009

This review is from: The Trouble with Destiny (Paperback)
"I enjoyed Sarah and her feisty attitude although I think she should have realized a little sooner in the book that her life will never be normal again. Dorian is a walking, talking, sexy, hunk and no matter how hard Sarah tries to ignore him, he isn't going away and her libido isn't going to calm down when he is around. The daemon attacks are gross and messy and escalating so Sarah has to get with the program in a hurry. But watch out daemons and Dorian when Sarah gets pissed off, you do not want to be in her way! This is a very creative paranormal story. Most of the creatures are not charming and cute but evil and ugly. Sarah may rant and rave about not wanting this as her destiny but destiny isn't offering Sarah any other choice but fight or die. I hope this is only the first story planned about Sarah and Dorian and others like them fighting the evil from hell because I didn't get enough in just this one book!" - Steph B.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Trouble with Destiny is simply a delightful read, March 24, 2009
This review is from: The Trouble with Destiny (Paperback)
The trouble with destiny is that it always brings trouble. Seriously. No joke. Always. Sarah just wanted to be a simple, quiet, boring accountant. She happens to be great with numbers. It would have worked - no harm, no foul - and lifewould have been good. But of course, Destiny had to rear its ugly head and not only change Sarah's plans for a calm and peaceful life, Destiny had to come in and turn her life completely upside down.

With identical birthmarks on the insides of her wrists resembling two half moons, Sarah was born to be a daemon slayer. Dorian knew that as soon as he found her and saved her from the attack of her very first daemon. While she would have promptly thanked him for his heroic endeavor, he then had to go and tear out the daemon's shriveled black heart and hand it to her expecting her to destroy it. Of course, Dorian then had to explain to her that she was the daemon slayer he had been searching for and inform her of the true nature of the markings on her wrists: they were meant to give her the power to destroy a daemon's vile heart.

Damn fate! There are plenty of times when Sarah wishes she could have stayed unaware of her true calling, but every time she looks at Dorian, she finds the resolve to do what she must for the greater good. Always Dorian, Dorian, Dorian. How can she successfully fight evil when Dorian keep creeping into her thoughts - distracting her - with his deliciousness. Except Dorian would never think of her in a sexy way. Dorian is all work and no play. Double damn. Not only is Dorian a strict work-aholic, he also has to be all noble about how he feels about Sarah. He wants to protect her. From what? Himself? What could Dorian be hiding that could change how anyone, especially Sarah, would feel about him?

The Trouble with Destiny is simply a delightful read. It is in the first person and I found it fun as well as funny being able to see things from Sarah's perspective. This book has a lighthearted feel to it that anyone can really enjoy. It is simple and sweet while fresh and entertaining at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Trouble with Destiny, April 8, 2010
This review is from: The Trouble with Destiny (Paperback)
Sarah is the new Daemon slayer in town. She didn't apply for the job, she doesn't like the job and she sure as hell doesn't want the job. But it's hers. Because Destiny says it is. Her "boss" Dorian is a cranky insufferable bastard that is also the hottest thing on legs and someone she'd rather be playing with in bed than hunting down Daemons with. A girl can never get a break, can she?

I enjoyed The Trouble with Destiny by J.K. Coi. The story flowed and the characters seemed to work well together. The heroine's self deprecating attitude was entertaining and definitely worked within the story line. I will most likely look for more books by J.K. Coi.
