My favorite book to date.,

This review is from: The Trouble With J.J. (Loveswept, No 253) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this book! Sometimes I am in the mood for a cheap taudry romance novel but I am always in the mood for a fun love affair! Sure there is some sex in it but overall it is a lighthearted comedy love story. I had the book but misplaced it years ago and finally tracked down the name of the book. I just now placed an order to buy a used one from here. I don't care what condition it's in as long as the pages are there and I can read it...over and over again. Before it got lost (most likely in all the moves I have had over the years), I couldn't put it down!

This book was filled with normal boring events. I didn't buy the book to go through the process of buying cloths, grocery shopping, eating cookies or pizzas...The romance was sooooo lame... The real life romance seems more exciting than what I read in this book..
I had read the author's other romance books as well. They were as boring as this one. I don't why I thought this would be different. My mistake and will not happen again.

Fun and Fluffy Take on My Fair Lady,
This review is from: The Trouble With J.J.
Like many people, I've read Tami Hoag's Suspense thrillers. Some of the folks on the romance forum recommended her earlier romances. So when I came across one this Loveswept, I snapped it up. The Trouble with JJ is a cute and fluffy romance. A conservative teacher is hired by a Charlie Sheen-like bad boy football player over the summer. He wants her to help him clean up his image so he can continue to have custody of his little girl. It's not hard to guess what will happen--because it's a romance. The story, written in the eighties, is vastly dated, but the very dating supplied part of the charm. The heroine keeps telling herself she's a "woman of the eighties", so should be free to act on her attraction to the hero. We are also reminded that Tom Selleck has nothing on the hero. (Hey, Tom is STILL gorgeous!) I enjoyed the dialog, the sexual tension, the humor, the characters, and the concept. However, I thought JJ (the hero) wasn't actually wild or eccentric enough to fully exploit the promise of the concept. Hence four stars instead of five.

I've read some of Tami Hoag's mysteries and enjoyed them as good summer fun reading. I thought this would be interesting since it was a bit different than the other books she'd written. I believe this was the first. Oh lordy--it was just a romance novel and so different than her other books. She writes a fairly meaty mystery and mixes them with a bit of romance, but this book was pure, predictable...um, not so great stuff.
If you're looking for a good study on how a writer can grow, read this and then one of her mysteries. If you are looking for another decent Tami Hoag book, try another mystery instead. |
