5.0 out of 5 stars The Trouble with Lacy Brown?
It simply was not long enough. The story was a delight and I immediately wanted to know more about the other characters. Hopefully, this is the first book of a series and Lacy is a repeating character. One thing that really impressed me was the research into locations. Usually, non-Texans get about half the details wrong when they are writing about this huge state...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story, sweet town, sweet people...a bit too sweet.
First of all let me say that I DID like this story. It was a charming love story. My only complaint is that I found it too sweet. Everyone had a strong Christian faith and that's all they seemed to talk about. Not that that's a bad thing but I just don't find it very realistic. I will continue reading the series because I did enjoy it. It had a bit of humor too which I...

5.0 out of 5 stars --, August 25, 2009
This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
When hairstylist Lacy Brown reads the advertisement that Mule Hollow, Texas, is long on men and short on women, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She isn't looking for a husband, no, God sent her on a mission to style the hair of the women who are! So Lacy buys a building and prepares to start up her own business.

Cattleman Clint Matlock locks horns with Lacy the moment he runs into her. Literally. Even though there is no way anyone can miss the bright pink Cadillac she drives, he plows into the rear of it, and Lacy manages to talk her way clear of an insurance claim. But Clint is used to upbeat, beautiful women who worm their way into someone's heart and then leave, and he is determined not to allow Lacy to get close.

Lacy seems determined to be trouble--with a capital T. First she paints her old building hot pink, causing the town to gawk in surprise. Then her pink caddy breaks down in the middle of the night and there are cattle rustlers out there. . . Clint doesn't dare leave her alone for anything! Who knows what other mess Clint will have to rescue troublesome Lacy Brown from?

Oh wow. I totally loved THE TROUBLE WITH LACY BROWN from page one! Lacy is upbeat and humorous and totally adorable! Clint is a typical male, determined to fix things--even things that don't need fixing. Even though I normally don't care much for Texas cowboy stories (I think they are too overdone) I thoroughly loved this book. I can't find anything negative to say about it. It is laugh out loud funny all the way through.

THE TROUBLE WITH LACY BROWN is a wonderful, page-turning read. Definitely one of the best Love Inspired romances that I read so far this year. This is Debra Clopton's first book, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her work. $4.99. 252 pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clopton's Lacy a Winner!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found the charcters in Debra Clopton's first book to be engaging, the plotline fun and the story well written. For a first novel, this is a winner, and we can look forward to some great stories from Ms. Clopton.
Way to go, Debra!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a debut..., May 4, 2006
This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Debra Clopton's The Trouble with Lacy Brown was an enjoyable read. For the most part it kept me interested. Occasionally the humor seemed a bit over-the-top, but otherwise it was zany and fun. I enjoyed getting to know the impulsive gal and found her heart endearing as much as it was aggravating at times. She was the perfect female version of impulsive Peter, the apostle. I recommend this story to anyone who wants a light read with just enough conflict to keep you interested until you finish the book.

Debra Clopton is a very special person and writer. She kept me intersted all the way through sometimes laughing hilarously and sometimes crying but throughly intertained all the way to the end and then I was anxious for her next work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a fun, cute idea to get the resident cowboys married,I loved the entire series!, November 16, 2008
This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this story and the characters. The verbal banter between Lacy and Clint is often hilarious, and I always enjoy when an author pairs a woman so different than the Alpha male-leading man is used to,that it totally flusters him.

This was a very original story, which also helped to make it so interesting. Some of the dead(due to the Oil-Boom & Bust) town's resident ladies decide to place ads for prospective wives for their lonesome single, ranchers in the area,so the town can get back on it's feet and see families grow.

I read all 9 books in this series, and loved every one them! You will fall in love with Mule Hollow and it's permanent citizens, plus the newcomers. My only criticism is how some of the H/H encountered each other as soon as she arrives in town, and a few love at first sight instances, but it was still fun reading how their relationship developed.

This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
As with all of the Mule Hollow books, this book was great! I'm constantly checking Debra Clopton's website for another release. It was hard to believe this was her first book, ever. I've been hooked ever since. There fast paced, well written, with loveable characters. The stories will be etched into your heart forever! The only disappointment I foresee is the day she discontinues the series. What a wonderful little town she's created.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice story, reads like a first novel, September 20, 2005

This review is from: The Trouble with Lacy Brown (Mule Hollow Matchmakers, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is Clopton's first novel and it shows - the characters are a little flat, the story is a bit contrived in places, and subplots (such as the relationships with Sherri and JP, Clint's forgiveness and reconciliation with his mother, etc) are hinted at but never flushed out. I would have loved to know why Clint's mother left - in her words - and why she was seeking forgiveness now. Part of the plot revolves around trust and forgiveness so actually witnessing Clint forgive his mother and moving forwarded would have been wonderful too.

That being said, Lacy is a fun character with spunk to spare and one does want to find out how it all ends but its no page turner.

I'm really looking forward to Clopton's second book to see how she grows as a writer.
