Book Description

9 and up
The Trouble with Skye is the first book in a series about a troubled foster girl who learns about God’s unconditional forgiveness and love when she is sent to live with Christian foster parents who introduce her to riding horses.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8 - At 13, Skye has exhausted the patience of the juvenile court and is headed for a detention center when a pair of experienced, Christian foster parents request custody of her. At their ranch, she learns to ride horses and begins to respond to the couple's love and discipline. With a heavy emphasis on a relationship with God, the narrative also tracks Skye's fear, anger, and other issues. The foster parents are cookie-cutter perfect, never becoming so much as mildly annoyed with her, not even when she is expelled from school. With a preachy approach and pedestrian writing, this novel never rises above average. Because this is the first in a projected series of six books about Skye, it's possible that her problems will be resolved in forthcoming titles. If Christian fiction is in demand, this isn't any worse than many of the secular series that most libraries carry by the yard, and could be something to offer parents who want their daughters to have an alternative to Mary Kate and Ashley. - Faith Brautigam, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, IL

From the Back Cover

Thirteen-year-old foster kid Skye Nicholson has become an expert at being an angry, cold, and defensive teenager. She’s been through so much and committed so many offenses that she knows with her last antic, she’s on her last leg. After breaking five foster home placements, she’s headed to her final resort—juvenile detention. But suddenly, hope finds her through the tough love of Tom and Eileen Chambers, who offer her another chance in their home. There she’s introduced to a God that has the power to truly save her, no matter how much she thinks she’s not worth saving.

More About the Author

Marsha Hubler is the author of the eight-book best-selling Keystone Stables juvenile fiction series by Zonderkidz. She also is the author of three other kids' books, a Bible study guide for ladies, and a homeschooling helps book. She has a master's degree in education, has over 40 years experience in education, and is presenly a homeschool consultant in central Pennsylvania.
Marsha has always loved kids and horses. She's been a foster parent and had owned horses for over 20 years. Her "Skye and Champ" stories in the Keystone Stables books reflect many of her own "wild" experiences with kids and horses. She also loves dogs and has two mixed terriers, Skippy and Bailey, who she adopted from a no-kill rescue shelter.
Living in a rural farm area of Pennsylvania affords Marsha the luxury of enjoying her three-acre property with her husband and dogs. She has a goldfish pond and a gazebo in her backyard.
Most of all, she is thankful to God for allowing her to write books. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of eleven, and now she can look back and see how God prepared her to write books. She considers it a special calling to write, especially for young people, and share biblical principles with which her readers can have happy and productive lives.
Marsha loves to hear from her fans and horse lovers. Visit her at www.marshahubler.com or at her two blogs: www.horsefactsbymarshahubler.wordpress.com and www.marshahubler.wordpress.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Trouble with Skye, November 9, 2004
This review is from: The Trouble with Skye (Keystone Stables, No. 1) (Paperback)
As a teacher, this book gave me great insight into the mind of a foster child and how she sees the world especially the attitude about shcool. I could easily place myself in Skye's shoes. I found myself crying with her. I recommend this book to girls in order for them to understand others that don't have the advantages they have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trouble With Skye, February 1, 2005
This review is from: The Trouble with Skye (Keystone Stables, No. 1) (Paperback)
The Trouble With Skye is a juvenile fiction that features Skye Nicholson, a troubled teenager who has found herself eye-to-eye with the juvenile court judge for the last time. Certain of her destiny -- Chesterfield Detention Center, Skye showed only contempt for the judge, the situation, and herself. What she hadn't seen in the equation was another set of foster parents. Instead of the detention center, the delinquent finds herself placed in a Christian treatment center filled with tough love, strict rules, and horses.
At the home of Eileen and Tom Chambers, Skye learns that there are people who love her enough to be tougher than she is. She discovers a God who loves her enough to call her His own. And she uncovers a love within herself she never knew existed.
