I read a great deal... often devouring 6 books a week on my Kindle. So when I see a new series, I like to purchase the entire series so I can get a good feel for the author. I do not like leaving negative reviews, but instead constructive criticism that I hope the author takes to heart to become a great author. I see that potential here.
The Positives: The story line is excellent. It has a different twist from the many paranormal/magic style stories out there, filled with adventure. It has a large character base with plenty of room to grow and develop additional stories. It has a strong moral code base, plays at strong female roles, and a nice young love story.
The Negatives: The writing style is still immature. Granted I know nothing regarding the age of the author, but I would suspect a great deal of the writing could be fixed with a strong editor and a writing coach or professor. Instead of smooth transitional sequences within scenes, I feel I am getting a list of items in the scene, lending it to a very robotic reading and lacking heart. For instance (now I am paraphrasing as I do not have my kindle handy), lines stating I had eggs, waffles, and sausage for breakfast with orange juice. How does this help the story line? How is this remotely interesting? Individual steps do not have to be told in the story, instead a nice flow of the story, again from a good editor and instruction in creative fiction writing will benefit this author. Spelling/incorrect word use is also prevalent throughout the book and the series. So if this irritates you as a reader, be prepared. I am still working my way through the second book, slowed down by poor flow of the story and word choices. For instance, the oh too common now seemingly interchangable use of: There, Their, They're; Who, Whose, Who's; Choice, Chose, Choose; Loose, Lose, Loses, Loss.
So in summary... the storyline/plot is excellent. But hopefully the writing style of the author continues to grow and improve.

The Trouble with Spells by Lacey Weatherford is an enjoyable young adult paranormal romance. The characters of Vance and Portia are well written. I get a very clear sense of them while reading this book. As an adult, I am not a huge fan of the all consuming love between two teenagers. However, Lacey has written such a great story with very vivid characters that I really enjoyed their journey regardless. The plot and story, the characters and settings are all conveyed superbly. Set in Sedona AZ, Lacey paints a beautiful and accurate picture of the area. I have been the tourist at Slide Rock that didn't bring appropriate attire. I already purchased the second book, The Demon Kiss, and can't wait to start reading it.

As a very long time fan of the television show Charmed I particularly enjoyed the reading of "The Trouble With Spells", though it is not Adult orientated but Young Adult it was a fun book to sit down and enjoy for the day!
From the very first page the book captivates the reader, I fell in love with Vance Mangum almost as fast as Portia did! The fact that Portia is a witch is a family secret but once she is told and starts to explore her powers she soon proves to be much more adept instinctively than expected and as Vance is a very strong Warlock he helps her to learn much faster how to use her newfound powers.... Their romance is very beautiful to watch as it unfolds throughout the book, the threat from Vance's past makes them bond even stronger as each needs the other more and more as they spend time together... I found that the dramatic tension created by the author with all the twists and turns she treats us to in the trials that Portia and Vance face together kept me interested and reading as fast as possible to find out what happened next...
The final chapters were shocking and poignant and heartbreaking in so many ways but very well done and lead straight into the next installment of the series, I cannot wait to see what adventures befall the pair in The Demon Kiss (Of Witches and Warlocks Bk #2)!
I am very happy to have been given a chance to read this re-release and cannot believe it took me this long to do so as it was a truly wonderful emotionally rich book with two characters who made me sigh for my lost youth but gave me lots of joy when immersed in their world of magic and mayhem

More About the Author
Lacey Weatherford was born in Ft. Meade Maryland while her father was serving in the military. She has been a life long resident of Arizona, spending most of her time growing up in the small rural town of Clay Springs.
It was while she was attending the small country school in Clay Springs, that she read her first "big" book at the age of eight. It was a Nancy Drew novel and Lacey was instantly hooked. She read every book that she could find in the series and decided that she wanted to write stories too.
Lacey spent a lot of time at the library from that time forward, even volunteering in her later teen years and early twenties. She would don a crazy clown outfit for the Friends of the Library fundraisers in an effort to help get the new town library built.
When she and her husband moved away from the area, Lacey took the opportunity to take some creative writing classes at the local college to help further along her interests. Several years later, they were blessed with the opportunity to move back to Clay Springs with their family. The town had finally succeeded in building their library and Lacey had the opportunity to be President of the Friends of the Library for a very short time, before relocating.
Lacey and her family still live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she continues to write young adult novels that have a fantasy/fairytale or paranormal bent to them, as well as being sure to include a great romantic storyline!
