Who is giving this one star?,

Alright, I'm not christian, I go by music that sounds good and I like. These people are saying it's bad because it has nothing to do with God? I think I missed something. This is a GREAT CD, it combines ska with swingish horns and great lyrics. My favorite tracks are: "Tip From Me", "Nothing" (both of which are about God BTW), "Staurday", and "Two More Weeks" My least favorite was probably the secret track, it's just some guy who is off key singing "Play the Game" with the band... it is kinda funny though. You'll have this CD in your CD player for days on end, I know I did. And not because it is a Christian band, but because it's really good music and you will really enjoy it. That's what counts right? How much you like the sound?

Great CD!,

I am a big fan of the W's and counted down the days till this CD came out. I LOVE it! the only thing that I didn't like was that none of the songs talk directly about God. It doesn't turn from Him, but it's not a praise and worship CD. If you feel like sitting back and listening to a good sound and laughing a bit, this is a great CD.

I am a big fan of the W's and have been waiting for thier new CD to come out. I really like the way they mixed things up with all the instruments that they use. I think it is a fun CD to listen to and dance to. I would recomend this CD to a friend. I really enjoyed this one and can't wait till a concert to see them again.

I LOVE THIS CD!!!! The w's remind us of everything we are! fun, outgoing, and loving God. This cd is full of great music, stuff you cannot help dancing too! I had to take a road trip to listen to it!!! I am a youth ministry intern, and i took it to let my students hear it on the night it came out. i am totally impressed. I am officially a W's fan 'until the bitter end...'

Waitin' for the next album,

This album was fantastic... I've listened to it over and over, I've memorized all the songs, I've even made believers out of some of my friends... people say it isn't good because "it's not Christian" Just because it isn't straight forward praise/worship doesn't mean it isn't christian... it just means you have to look a little deeper to understand the christian value... It's lyrics may not be as hit-you-in-the-face-christian like dctalk, Jars of Clay, and Sonicflood (which by the way are all also great bands), but it's still wholesome... definitely a great album, I can't wait for the next... FYI- if you happen to be a horn player, you can get horn tabs for lots of christian ska bands including the W's at chorntabs.tripod.com

Christian group or not?,
This review is from: Trouble With X (Audio CD)
What happened to the songs like "The Devil is Bad?" They now sing stuff like, "With Out You Girl I Would Rather Be Dead." If you are looking for a Christian group that praises God, DO NOT GET THIS CD!

Not as good as Fourth from the Last,
By
This review is from: Trouble With X (Audio CD)
I've had Fourth From the Last since '98 but didn't really listen to it until last year. I loved its rock-ska-billy sounds with a bit of swing thrown in, so I bought this CD. Naturally, I expected this CD to have the same awesomeness, but it didn't. Andrew used a banjo istead of a normal guitar, resulting in more rock-a-billy sound than swing or ska. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with rock-a-billy, but if they're going to have the trombonist from FIF on their album, I would expect it to be ska. This CD isn't extremely bad, but get Fourth From the Last before you buy this.

I LOVE this CD! The W's really bring out pumped music that can't be helped to scank to that helps you praise the Lord! I really recommend this album to anyone who's into ska and wants good heathly (and funny) music!

Sure, the lyrics aren't explicitly Christian for the most part, but this album's still just plain fun to listen to. This album is every bit as good as their first one, if not better.
There are some similarities to Five Iron Frenzy, although they are different genres. I understand one of Frenzy's people played trombone on this album; if you like Frenzy you might like the W's too, especially if you like swing. I really appreciate the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously. I see that this album is out of print now, which is a shame, since it's really a good album. It's a real pity the W's broke up, I really liked their work. I definitely recommend this album. It's fun to listen to all around, and you won't be sorry you bought it. |
