I ordered this album from amazon.co.uk after hearing a couple of tracks from it on John Peel's 2000 festive 50 (radio 1 show webcast at the end of the year). I own two of their earlier albums and am already a fan. Basically, it's like this. They make songs about everyday things encountered while living in Britain. The musicianship is adequate, probably deliberately made to sound amateurish. The production quality is average. However, the lyrics and the hum along tunes are wonderful, (as long as searing sarcasm is your thing). You'll find yourself singing along to 'Irk the Purists' et al in no time at all. A couple of listens and the songs become old friends, suitable for singing along in the car or after a couple of pints, "Let's go to the Met Bar, and cause an altercation...". The kicker for Americans is that the topics and references in the lyrics are likely to be obscure at best, unfathomable at worst. I find after living in the States for 14 years that my ability to understand their songs has diminished in some ways, although "a tube of Pringles" features in one, something that didn't exist in England when I lived there. So, as I said in the review title, highly recommended to current or ex-Patriot brits (who like to have a pint and a laugh) and possibly for a committed American anglophile. Should probably be avoided by anyone else.
