4.0 out of 5 stars Repairing My Own Computer
This book and others I have received from Amazon, have saved me many dollars. The book covers most of my computer problems and I have diagnosed two of my fiends computers and fixed the problems. Saved us all big bucks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Troubleshooting for Dummies
Although I found it useful I apprantely know more about computers that I thought or the book was too basic. I need a reference book that is more geared toward acutually repairing problems instead of just explaining what is the problem. For the complete novice I would recommend this book. If you want to be able to repair your computer yourself; keep looking for another...

After buying my tenth PC with five used currently and having some system trouble hardware related it was time to learn about repairing my computers. I have already used the book and found it very useful. My money was well spent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Troubleshooting pc, October 11, 2009

Helps those of us who are not computer literate. It doesn't have EVERY situation but what book would be able to fit everything. But it is great for covering a lot of situations. Easy to understand. Love that it comes with a disk too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased, January 23, 2010

I am an above average computer user and this book was still very helpful. The layout is very well done, you just go to the chapter that fits your need without having to read through allot of other stuff to find what you need. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to save a buck rather than pay a Geek!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best How-to Book for Older Computers, February 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had this book from the library and used it so much on my laptop with XP that I bought a copy. The book must have been published about the time XP came out and if someone has VISTA left over, there are also pointers on that. My advice? don't buy a newly published repair/troubleshooting guide; look for one that matches the dates of your programs and computer, even if it's used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful!, February 15, 2011

I really like this book. It's clear. Concise. Arranged well. I'm doing more computer troubleshooting lately and I was looking for some new information to help me solve problems. This was a great reference. I'd recommend it if you're not overly familiar with PC troubleshooting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for what it is, October 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is amazing for what it is.....a general primer for maintaining your own computer including hardware maintenance, software maintenance and organizational techniques to keep your desktop clean. This book is actually an expanded version of Gookin's "Troubleshooting Your PC" so if you had been looking at that book, spend the extra couple of dollars and pick this up instead. The only real beef I have with this book is that there are very few pictures or illustrations to take you step-by-step in say, "Replacing Your Power Supply", but the author has remedied this with a DVD that comes with the book. The DVD tutorial is well put together but I would have preferred simply more photos in the book instead of having to load the dvd every time I have a technical question on installing new hardware.
