This is the charming tale of a woman who has been rejected by the family of the man she loved. She conceals her heartbreak and uses her wonderful dog to locate lost people. When she is called in to find a missing child and meets the man responsible for her rejection again, she can't believe that he has had a sincere change of heart. However, as she helps him find his runaway adopted niece, she realizes the change in him is real. Then, not only are three hearts healed, they're joined.
Ms. Whisneand has a rare knowledge of the canine heart, as well, which adds greatly to the enjoyment of this book.

Okay..., January 4, 2012
This book is the second in the Serenity series. This is a stand-alone and does not mention the characters from Book one at all. In fact, I wonder how they are related?
Unlike the first book, I didn't care for this one. This book was about a woman who uses dogs to track lost people. She is a big dog lover and is one of the more popular trackers. When she's called to track a little girl, she's forced to be assisted by the girl's soon to be uncle, whom she has a past with. The girl's soon to be parents were rich snobs. Her perspective father called her "the kid" and her mother...well, I'm not sure about her. The uncle though, Gray, he was a sweetie though maybe a bit on the "goody" side. I loved how he related to the little girl.
I didn't care much for the little girl. She kept running away, and I just didn't buy the reasons or the fact that she was 'sweet" and "innocent." Some of the scenes bothered me. At one point when the little girl was lost, the two main characters were stading there staring into each other's eyes about to kiss. I was angry because they were more concerned about their feeling for each other before finding this little girl. I thought the timing was very inappropiate. Also, several times when they were looking for her, they started making jokes with each other. I'm sorry, but it looked like a tornado was coming at one point and they were flirting with each other instead of looking for this little girl? I was very uncomfortable with this.
Finally, throughout the book, Stacy fought against her developing feelings toward Graydon because she didn't think she could fit into his world. Then suddenly, she was hoping he'd tell her he loved her and wanted to marry her??? I was like WHAT???
The girl's adoption was a bit unvelievable as well...A little girl running away from her prospective parents would not make a good canidate. Then since Graydon was single in the process of getting married...I'm not sure it would have been as easy as 1-2-3 like it seemed to have been....but I could be wrong and I'm glad he ended up with the little girl!
The concept was good, and I was able to get through it without any trouble. There were good, solid Christian ethics in it as well...I'm hoping the third book will make more sense though :-(
