More About the Author

A native of Minnesota, Robert Gudmestad earned his PhD from Louisiana State University and is currently an associate professor at Colorado State University. In addition to his books about slavery and steamboats, he has written about the memory of the Civil War and baseball. His current research project is a history of Civil War gunboats and efforts to control the western waters. He lives in Fort Collins with his wife and two children and can be contacted at robert.gudmestad@colostate.edu.
