One of the best children's books of recent years,
This review is from: Trout, Trout, Trout!: A Fish Chant (American City Series) (Hardcover)
More than just a rhyming story the rhythm and cadence produces a strong chant that children fall into naturally. The rhyming pattern is set on the first two pages and follows that pattern throughout the rest of the book. The illustrations are great and create a personality for each fish while at the same time staying true to their basic shape and color so that the reader can identify them. Brightly colored, finely detailed, the illustrations themselves are exceptionally well done. If you like fish or just want to introduce your child to the fascinating world of fish Trout, Trout, Trout is highly recommended and a lot of fun just to read and leaf through. This is a great chant that keeps on your lips long after you are done with the book.

Okay, I Guess We Aren't Fish People - a review "Trout, Trout, Trout",
This review is from: Trout, Trout, Trout!: A Fish Chant (American City Series) (Hardcover)
Popeye Shiner, he looks mad. Stonecat. Blindcat. Shad. Shad. Shad! Waccamaw Killifish, see it pass? Largescale Stone roller. Bass. Bass. Bass. Okay, I guess we aren't fish people so maybe that explains why we didn't care much for Trout, Trout, Trout. My children (boy and girl; 4 and 6 when this was read and reviewed) were not gripped by the need to read this book again, nor to recite any of the words--something they typically do with anything that rhymes. Considerations::: Trip Park's artwork is wonderful and humorous, but to get your money's worth with this one I think you have to be into fishing more than normal people. My recommendation would be to check this one out at the library first. It might be that adult fisherman (and women) would enjoy it. The Accelerated Reading Level a generic "2". An incredibly fun-to-view book, and even more fun to read out loud. The art is stunning and ridiculously funny.

My whole family loves it!,

This review is from: Trout, Trout, Trout!: A Fish Chant (American City Series) (Hardcover)
This is just such a good book that words won't do it justice. It has to be seen and read to be truly appreciated. I know it calls itself a "fish chant", but for my four year-old son it is a "fish holler" - he loves to yell out the repetative names of the fish (to the point that we cannot read this one in the library anymore :) The pictures are amazing, giving personality to each fish that I never would have imagined. We have given this book to several grown-up friends who like to fish, and it has received rave reviews from all. I hope these two team up for more books (Ms. Sayre and Mr. Park, if you read this, do birds next, please!)

This has been one of the favorites of my 16 mos old daughter for the last 2 mos. During bedtime stories we will read several books once each, but have to read this one 3+ times. There is a lot of humor in the illustrations to keep the adults entertained as well.

My husband and kids love fishing, and we all love this book. The pictures are great, and the rhymes are fun. My 3 year old had it memorized the first week and excitedly chants along when we read it. My kids (3&6) love books, and this is probably their favorite.

We got this book for my daughter at 18 months, she is now 4 and still loves this book. The illustrations are eye popping and the wording is very rhythmic.

My 5 year old son loves everything about this book, the pictures, the rhyme, the information about the fish at the end. It's very unique and educational, and fun at the same time.

We are a nature center that teaches fishing classes. This is a fantastic book. Even though the fish are fun and cartoonish; they have very good features!
