Not the best lawn mower I've ever owned.
on November 20, 2013
I have to say this is one of the worst lawn mowers I think I have ever owned. I wasn't expecting it to be like the riding lawn mower it replaced or a Honda self-propelled I had before that but a few key problems with it after not even 1 year of service.
The deck is uneven in it's mowing now. It is clearly something with the one setting arm that changes the deck height of all 4 wheels. On the highest setting, the difference between the left and right side of the deck is 3/4 of an inch. Called Troy-bilt and they told me to take it to a service center but didn't offer any advice on a user serviceable fix to the problem. I live in a big metro and the 2 closest authorized service centers have a 3+ week backlog just to look at it and determine what is wrong much less fix it. Can you make an appointment and get on that list? No, they want your lawn mower for nearly a month. That really doesn't help anything so I just finished out the season mowing it lower than normal so the scalping in the lawn isn't as bad (lower deck = lower difference between left and right sides). Oh and don't leave gas in it for more than a few months over the upcoming winter. Now that isn't necessarily just a Troy-bilt problem because the real problem is the 10% ethanol gas just breaks down so rapidly but I had a hard time getting it flushed out and it took several weeks of mowing before the engine seemed to run smooth again.
