Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Troy-Bilt 31 cc 2-cycle gas trimmer features convenient EZ-Start choke technology, which allows the user to simply flip the choke, prime the engine, and then give a slow, smooth, easy pull for a guaranteed start. The EZ-Start technology allows the trimmer's engine to engage with 55-percent less effort than most gas models. With its rugged 31 cc engine, the trimmer provides plenty of brawn to power through the most ragged, overgrown growth. The trimmer's curved-shaft design gives easy access underneath low-growing shrubs. The trimmer cuts in a 17-inch radius and features heavy-duty, 0.095-inch dual lines with convenient bump-head line release.

When it's time to replace the line, the featured SpeedSpool line replacement system is exceptionally easy to load and rewind, all without removing the spool or taking it apart. The entire trimmer feels exceptionally balanced and comfortable in the hand, and the ergonomic soft-grip D-shaped handle easily adjusts for both right and left-handed users. The trimmer's engine and upper handle is compatible with other Troy-Bilt EZ-Link attachments (sold separately), a feature that allows you to turn your trimmer into an edger, cultivator, hedge trimmer, blower, or pole saw. The trimmer comes with all the necessary oil for immediate operation, and is covered by a 2-year limited warranty.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK trimmer but too heavy, July 31, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Troy-Bilt 17-Inch 31cc Gas-Powered Trimmer TB25CS (Lawn & Patio)
I should have looked more carefully at the weight of this trimmer before I ordered it because it is very much heavier than my old one without having any more power. In fact I think it has a little less power because the motor strains and slows at cutting thin but moderately high grass, which my previous trimmer cut easily. This trimmer is heavy enough so that I had to rig a shoulder strap in order to use it. Also, it is a little too long for me, so that I cannot extend my arms when I use it, making it even more difficult to carry. I would not advise a short person to get this. It does start easily and everything works smoothly. For the money it is not bad but you should be fairly strong and tall or you will not be happy with this. (I am 5'4")

I also was told on my email purchase confirmation that it would not be delivered for 2 months. I emailed amazon, and within a day they replied that the email was wrong, and that the item would be delivered in 3 weeks(it was), and they gave me free 2 day shipping for my trouble. I have always found them to be terrific about taking care of any problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, esp for the price, July 13, 2005

Lets face it, most line trimmers are too heavy, too difficult to start, and choke on heavy weeds too easily. This model is not a major exception to the rules, but compared to all others I've tried, it's the best for the money. There are pro models that are better, but they also cost twice as much. This is the best model I've ever owned. Knowing how bad they can be, I can easily give this a top rating. Unlike the other reviewer, I bought mine through another online retailer (sorry Amazon) so I can't comment on whether his experience with delivery problems is normal or a fluke.

2.0 out of 5 stars great to start but not longlived, April 24, 2007

I bought this trimmer about four years ago.

It was great when new and the easy-start really was easy. The spool was rather difficult to load and sometimes the line would jam and need to be dismantled to free it up.

It was quite heavy and the vibration often gave my hand a carpal tunnel-like strain.

After four years it just stopped and now won't start. I have stripped it down to see if it was a carburettor problem but it is a very simple carb that had no obvious problems. It is not worth taking this to a repair shop. It seems to be designed to last out the warranty but is not quality construction.

I wouldn't buy another but would consider spending a little more on a better quality make like Stihl or Husqvarna.
