OK trimmer but too heavy,

I should have looked more carefully at the weight of this trimmer before I ordered it because it is very much heavier than my old one without having any more power. In fact I think it has a little less power because the motor strains and slows at cutting thin but moderately high grass, which my previous trimmer cut easily. This trimmer is heavy enough so that I had to rig a shoulder strap in order to use it. Also, it is a little too long for me, so that I cannot extend my arms when I use it, making it even more difficult to carry. I would not advise a short person to get this. It does start easily and everything works smoothly. For the money it is not bad but you should be fairly strong and tall or you will not be happy with this. (I am 5'4")I also was told on my email purchase confirmation that it would not be delivered for 2 months. I emailed amazon, and within a day they replied that the email was wrong, and that the item would be delivered in 3 weeks(it was), and they gave me free 2 day shipping for my trouble. I have always found them to be terrific about taking care of any problem.

Lets face it, most line trimmers are too heavy, too difficult to start, and choke on heavy weeds too easily. This model is not a major exception to the rules, but compared to all others I've tried, it's the best for the money. There are pro models that are better, but they also cost twice as much. This is the best model I've ever owned. Knowing how bad they can be, I can easily give this a top rating. Unlike the other reviewer, I bought mine through another online retailer (sorry Amazon) so I can't comment on whether his experience with delivery problems is normal or a fluke.

I bought this trimmer about four years ago.It was great when new and the easy-start really was easy. The spool was rather difficult to load and sometimes the line would jam and need to be dismantled to free it up. It was quite heavy and the vibration often gave my hand a carpal tunnel-like strain. After four years it just stopped and now won't start. I have stripped it down to see if it was a carburettor problem but it is a very simple carb that had no obvious problems. It is not worth taking this to a repair shop. It seems to be designed to last out the warranty but is not quality construction. I wouldn't buy another but would consider spending a little more on a better quality make like Stihl or Husqvarna.

doesn't work,
This review is from: Troy-Bilt 17-Inch 31cc Gas-Powered Trimmer TB25CS (Lawn & Patio)
The trimmer didn't run properly out of the box the first time I used it. The second time I tried using it it wouldn't even start. Now I am stuck going through the manufacturer since Amazon says it won't take it back. Thanks for nothing. If you want a trimmer, buy it local so you can return it if it is broken.

Pleased with this unit so far. A little heavy but not so much so that it's difficult to handle. Nice speed, adequate cutting power, smooth running motor, easy line release. Haven't changed the line yet so not sure how difficult it would be, if at all..For the price, a good buy overall! Nice work Troy-Bilt!

I bought one of these a few years ago. It started running hot after 1 season and I brought it to a repair shop the next season after the gas tank sprang a leak. Then something else in it broke that the repair shop (and warranty) couldn't fix. I thought it was a fluke and bought a new one. Guess what....never has run correctly. Starts fine, and ran ok (some sputtering) for one season, now it sputters every time I rev the RPM's for full speed cutting. After doing some research, it seems that there are some sub-standard parts (Fly-wheel) and the warranty is useless. Also, tilling attachment is only good for very soft, loose soil. Next time, I'm going with a different brand. You should too. Why pay over a hundred bucks for something that's only going to last a season.

Cracked gas tank and won't start any more,
This review is from: Troy-Bilt 17-Inch 31cc Gas-Powered Trimmer TB25CS (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this trimmer 4 years ago. It ran great for the first 2 years. Since then I noticed gas leakage from the engine and consequently the gas smell in the garage. At begining this trimming season, it wouldn't start any more, and I noticed a large crack in the gas tank. Basically this trimmer gave me about 3 years service time, but I expects more than that.

Good First Year, Poor Longevity,
This review is from: Troy-Bilt 17-Inch 31cc Gas-Powered Trimmer TB25CS (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this trimmer two years ago. The first year I used it I had absolutely no problems at all. However over time, it became harder and harder to start. Now it sits in my garage because I simply can't get it started. I'm not a whiz on small engines, but I know enough to check the spark plug and any obvious signs of problems, and I couldn't find anything wrong. Two years old and ready for repairs!I would avoid this unit if I had another chance.

First and foremost, guys, I am a girl. This is an easy weedeater to start and it clear a path. In fact, I loved this machine so much, I cleared my neighors ditch. This was a much grown over ditch that goes all the way around their house - It took an hour. If you don't have one of these you need one.

We're very happy with this purchase, this trimmer had been rated top in magazines, which is why we bought it. After we used it a few times, I can see why it got such good reviews. I would definately recommend this trimmer.
