Beware of Snow Chute Crank, September 11, 2010
This review is from: Troy-Bilt Storm 2840 Snow Thrower
I actually bought one of these from a home center store, put it on will call, but returned it before taking delivery.
I have one major concern that made me return the item, and instead purchase an Ariens from a competing retailer.
The toggle-stick control for the snow discharge chute is sticky and barely operates while the machine is brand new, and sitting comfortably inside a 70 degree showroom.
I can only imagine how difficult this chute will be to operate when it's covered with 10 pounds of frozen snow and ice, and the temperatures are hovering around zero.
I was really torn, and settled for a smaller machine, (24" versus 28") for a few buck more, but I'm comfortable the chute operation will be smooth, easy and dependable on the Ariens.
Another concern was the Troy Built uses an MTD motor, whereas the Ariens uses a Briggs. But I would have kept it had the snow chute seemed to be more dependable and solid.
The entire chute is plastic, where the Ariens is steel.
