Took it back jul 2013, got another after customer service suggested it was a dud and to return it to Lowes to get a replacement.

It will barely start, and will only run mostly choked.

After owning two toro trimmers we were unable to find anyone selling them anymore so we got this Troy bilt tb22ec and it has proven to be useless. From not running great when it was brand new to breaking and needing $40 to replace the part after only 3 months of light use.

I was more than surprised to read so many negative reviews on this site. I've read reviews on the TB22-EC on other sites that I am much more in agreement with. Assembly out of the box took maybe five minutes. Added the pre-mixed gasoline and following the directions started on the second pull. Some reviews indicate users are unable to figure out the starting sequence but they're very clear in the instructions. AND the steps are the same as my Weed-eater and Cub-Cadet string trimmers. (The Weed-eater died, hence the Troy Built replacement. The Cub Cadet is heavier duty for the farm, not for around the house.) I was pleasantly surprised to find the feature that allows me to turn the head over on the shaft for edging with a simple push button and twist. The only reason I didn't go all five stars is the noise level. But I wear ear muffs when operating any of my power tools so it's not a real big deal. All said and done, I'm quite pleased with my TB22.

I bought this to replace a 4 year old Troy-Bilt trimmer. The main reason I bought this was because my blower and hedge trimmer would fit this one and I wouldn't have to re-purchase another brand if I changed manufacturers. I must say it was a massive mistake on my part.

This is hardest starting trimmer I have ever owned. Then to keep it running takes magic, sorcery and intervention for the Almighty one! You can hear the laughter in the background from the devil as he spits fire onto this evil piece of machinery!

I don't want to hear "Oh, you don't know how to start it properly".... I have owned my fair share of gas trimmers in my life and I work with small engine repair part-time.

I don't know what happened to the brand name "Troy-Bilt", at one time that name evoked high-end equipment. That is certainly not the case now.

I returned this to Home Depot and spent the extra money on a good quality ECHO and have been extremely pleased with it.

I purchased this trimmer when we moved into our new house, which had quite a large lawn. I've read through all the other reviews on Amazon and I just don't understand why everyone is being so harsh on this trimmer. In the month that I've had it, I've used it almost 20 times, both here and at a property I rent it. The trimmer is light weight, gas-efficient and once you figure out the (odd) starting procedure, it works fine. It tackles thick grass and weeds without any issues. The trimmer is a bit loud, but other than that, it works great. I am still perplexed at all the negativity surrounding this trimmer. It's reasonably priced and moderately powerful. Perhaps my fellow reviewers don't understand that any trimmer had its limits. I for one am satisfied with my trimmer.

My TB22-EC is 12 months old. It was OK for a year of bi-weekly light use, but did suffer from the problems mentioned in other reviews (temperamental starting and staying started, frequent restarts, etc). I just finished weed eating a 20x20 yard lot next door, when midway through the engine locked up. The service department said the engine repair was almost as much as replacement. Troybilt website can't even find documentation on this model number (again, 12 months old). Really disappointing that I bought this from Lowes.

Do not buy this trimmer. I have had the same problems the other reviewers have described. It is hard to start, motor dies frequently, it's loud as all get out, and the string spool is cheaply made.

I wanted to replace my old Ryobl trimmer that cost me about ninety bucks six years ago. I naively assumed that I could get an acceptable replacement for about the same money. There is sometimes a difference between inexpensive and cheap. This one is CHEAP! The "bump" string spool broke after two days. Fortunately, I could use the old shaft/spool from my Ryobl. The alternative head that came with the trimmer holds precut string; it does not hold the string for longer than a few seconds. The precut pieces of string go flying merrily hither and yon. The motor is difficult to start and sounds so tinny that I doubt it will last the year. Do not, under any circumstances buy this product.

JUNK does not even begin to describe this trimmer. (if they had a 1/4 star rating, I'd pick that. 1 Star is 2x the rating of this crappy tool).

After owning a Ryobi (Which really wasn't that much better but did manage to last about 3 years of very light use), this "winner" lasted about 1 month.

As described in other reviews, VERY DIFFICULT to start and keep running. Clear Rubber hoses going to the primer bulb just "pass through" holes in the gas tank!

Air that gets in (while the hoses leak fuel!) puts tiny air bubbles into the fuel line and tank, which stalls out the trimmer unless you run it on full throttle!

SILLIEST, P.O.S. / Cheap Chinese Design I've ever seen. Why would you think that you could drill 2 holes into a fuel tank, then pass 2 clear hoses through / into the tank and not think this will leak or aerate the fuel????

I paid about 2.5 times the price of this and bought a Husqvarna and it runs flawless after 2 years. The quality is outstanding. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra $$$ for something far superior which will be cheaper in the long run.
