No parts available trimmer model TB495,

Replacing string on the spool is maddening. I'd like to order more spools, to keep up with supply and demand, instead of running out in the middle of trimming/edging and fooling around for 40 or 50 minutes restringing the spool. I'll never buy one again.

This broke within 16 months of extremely light use. The plastic housing for the string shattered while in use--don't know why--and NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. Don't buy this!

Not a very good trimmer....At least for me.....,

It's not comfortable to use for anything longer than 10 minutes. The length is too short and I'm a short person. Anything after 10 minutes my back hurts from using it.
Bump & Feed doesn't work well - but many do not so I guess nothing's new here. Perhaps with a different trimmer head, it may be better, I don't know, but I've given mine away and am onto a Stihl gas trimmer once & for all.....

Troy Built string trimmer,

The Troy Built string trimmer is a heavy duty product, but the weight may be too much for some people especially if used over an extended period of time. The duel string spool seems unnecessary, and the Troy system of feeding line not with a bump but with a stoppage of the motor wastes much string. It's constantly feeding line every time you pause in your work. The use of oversized line (.80) seems extreme as well. That old .065 line in the garage is now a pitch. For small neighborhood lawns a smaller and lighter product would probably be a better choice.

The diagrams and instructions in the user manual for restringing the TB495 are of no use (in particular figure 24 isn't clear about how the string is to go through the notches.) I attempted to follow them but succeeded only in breaking the teeth off one of the notches. I now have an utterly useless piece of equipment with no prospect of finding a replacement spool as these are apparently no longer made. The spool itself is of such inferior quality that I imagine it is intended to break anyway and force one to purchase another trimmer. If this is any indication of the overall quality of their products, caution is advised in purchasing Troy Bilt.

JUNK,
This review is from: Troy-Bilt TB495 14-Inch 4.5 Amp Electric Telescoping Straight Shaft String Trimmer With Edge Wheel (Lawn & Patio)
I bought the Model TB495 late in 2008 at Lowes. Big mistake. I was under the impression that two cutting lines would make the job faster and easier. But, replacing the cutting line takes longer than trimming my walkway; and getting the two ends through the badly designed holes is an exercise in time-wasting frustration.
This is a terrible piece of equipment. The "EZ" automatic line advance does not work; the manual line advance isn't much better; and the time spent re-stringing and then replacing the spool is far in excess of any possible amount of time saved by having two cutting lines. Do yourself a favor: Get an original design Weed Eater or one of the similar ONE-LINE string trimmers. Pass the Troy-Bilt, giving it a wide berth.

This device comes with a vague instruction manual. How long is 10.5 comma? The comma appearing where you wouild normally find a foot or inch designation. If you use it with a series of short bursts like fine trimming around a circular base or series of ornamental rocks the line just keeps feeding till it gets so long it fouls upon itself with the two ends twining like caduceus snakes. If you ever need to turn your trimmer off in the coursr of your trimming. This is note a trimmer to be considered. Fairness aside: I did not have this problem with the original string. This problem was with replacement string, but still....
