Wood and bamboo oils are simply food grade mineral oils. You should use a wood oil in your kitchen instead of vegetable oil because mineral oil does not break down or become rancid. Wood oil gives sheen and water and stain resistance to wood items such as butcher block, cutting boards, pizza peels and wooden salad bowls. You can use wood oil to darken and restore the appearance of faded wooden knife handles or dried out wood cutting boards. This is a must have for any kitchen with wood items.

Snow River Wood Oil is offered at a much better price on Amazon and is eligible for free super saver shipping and as a 4 for 3 item. The only advantage of the Tru Bamboo oil is its nicer packaging.

I actually use mineral oil laxative on my wood kitchen items ($2 for 16 oz. at many drug stores) which is the same thing. Clearly the laxative bottle is less than aesthetically pleasing and is embarassing to leave around the kitchen. My wife keeps hiding the bottle in fact. But No it won't have a laxative effect if you use it on your cutting boards or knife handles.

I started to shred my new bamboo board (my first) with my sword-quality Henkels before I realized I had to oil it to stand up to the punishment. "What are all those little slivers I'm seeing?!". Bamboo is still a strange material to do serious cutting on, but the oil makes it work pretty well. I guess the wood ends up in the food so the blade doesn't dull as quickly?! :)

The oil itself is natural, so no flame/explosion hazard as with the Boos products. If you have a decent sized board (12"+), and it is new, I suggest getting 2 of these, or a larger sized bottle, as the board sucks this stuff up like crazy. Don't forget, you need a weekly reminder on your calendar to re-oil all the boards in your kitchen-whether you use them or not!

Thanks, Tru Bamboo!

It works like it is supposed to work; however, I could have just used a white mineral oil, since that's all that it is made out of, what a waste of money. By the way, the cost for this product was extremely unreasonable, comparatively speaking!

The oil is easy to use and leaves the board looking amazing. After you use your cutting board a few times all you have to do is rinse it off and once dry wipe it down with the oil again and it looks brand new.
