3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad
I purchased this product after my daughter was born. The installation took me a while to figure out.Slide the top of the carseat strap into the slit of the headrest (it should have about the same width as the slit), open the velcro and hook it around the loop then fasten it back. The strap stays in the slit and the headrest doesn't fall out of the carseat when you lift the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Second Time Mom, January 2, 2004

I have seen a lot of reviews on this product where people think that it is not safe. Well I am a former EMS employee, and my husband is still currently an EMT and Firefighter. We both have seen many car wrecks which involved children, and the babies in car seats (correctly strapped in) with headrests came out of the wrecks better than those without. Newborns need the extra security and support for their heads and neck, they just do not have the strength on their own yet. We used one of these with our first child, we started out only used receiving blankets and quickly switched. They are easy to use and you only need them for a few months until your babies neck is strong enough. I think that most parents that are afraid of this product are first timers that have been given the wrong information by people who have not been there to see the real life results of using a car seat head rest that is correctly installed.

4.0 out of 5 stars does what it's supposed to do, December 10, 2004
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
After my first ride in the car with my son, I found him with his head in a very weird position due to lack of head control. The poor thing looked so uncomfortable and I swear I thought the jiggling had snapped his little neck! So I ran out and bought these head supporters. I have to say, they were helpful. I put the larger one in the swing and left the smaller one in the car seat. They did seem to help control the head bobbing until he was old enough to hold up his own head.

The cons:
1. the headrest does not really snap in to the seat anywhere, so basically you're just placing it in the seat (similar to what you'd do with a rolled up towel).
2. when we took our car seat to the police station to have it inspected, they didn't like the head rest placed in the car seat because it didn't fit securely (i.e. wasn't secured to the fabric) and because the seat had not been crash tested with the headrest in place. The alternatives they recommended were either to contact the manuafacterer and buy a head rest that HAD been crash tested in our particular seat model, or to just use rolled up towels. (I'm not sure what difference a towel would make in a crash, but I'm just repeating what they said)

In the end, we disregarded what the police had recomended and just used the headrest until our son no longer needed them (which really wasn't all that long). The product worked fine and luckily we didn't need to test out the whole crash test theory.

Having said that, would I buy this again? Probably not. Like I said, the product worked well and I gave it 4 stars because we really didn't have any problems with it, but all things considered, why not just roll up a couple of towels?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for swings, bouncers, and high chairs, too!, March 9, 2004

These are actually two headrests in one--a small one for little babies and bigger (outer one) for larger babies. I LOVE that quality, b/c they come apart and you can use one or the other (or both, like the picture shows). I actually don't use this for my car seat. Instead, I have on on my daughter's swing (so her head doesn't roll) and on her bouncy seat also. They're soft and comfortable and cradles her head while she sits. LOVE it!

This is a fabulous product. I owned one with my first son, but I gave it to my sister-in-law, so I plan to purchase a new one for the little boy I am expecting. The headrest is actually very easy to install for anyone who has thoroughly looked at it... it's just 2 pieces of velcro. As for the fear of danger during a collision, the headrest is VERY soft and resilient to its shape, thus posing no serious threat to your infant. I did notice that my son's head would pop out of it when he was a few months old, but he had gained some head control and was lifting up, causing me some alarm when I would see his head resting on the headrest rather than in it. Our pediatrician assured us that if our son had some ability to lift his head that he was fine. We used the headrest until our son was about 4 or 5 months old. I found this product safer than a rolled up receiving blanket as it does not shift when the baby moves like a blanket does.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will definitely need this for your baby when he's small, November 2, 2004
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
This is a must have when your baby is small. This one is better than the one that came with our infant car seat- its softer and it fits better.

I purchased this product after my daughter was born. The installation took me a while to figure out.Slide the top of the carseat strap into the slit of the headrest (it should have about the same width as the slit), open the velcro and hook it around the loop then fasten it back. The strap stays in the slit and the headrest doesn't fall out of the carseat when you lift the baby out.I gave this product 3 stars because even though I like its fit around the baby's head and its softness, I wish it had more support on the sides and kept its shape better. It works well in the swing or bouncer seat though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Keep looking, July 30, 2003

This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
I got this because I kept going to take my newborn out of the car and finding her head at a 90 degree angle. Well, it didn't look safe/healthy, or comfortable. I got this headrest because it seemed geared toward newborns. Well, the only way it works is to have both headrests in there at the same time. I have to readjust the dang thing everytime I put my baby in the seat. And it didn't come with any instructions on how to install in the carseat. I don't even know if I have it in there correctly. I would keep looking.

1.0 out of 5 stars Better talk to the highway patrol first, January 13, 2006
By
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
We had our vehicle and carseat inspected prior to our child being born. This is a free service offered by the highway patrol in our area. The officer noticed that we had this product in the carseat. He said that unless it came with the carseat you should never add one of these to your child's seat. He gave many reasons, the main reason is that the carseat had not be crash-tested with the item in it and could therefore compromise your child's safety in the event of a crash. He suggested using a receiving blanket that is rolled and laid in the same postion around their head, this way in the event of a crash the blanket will easily fly out and wont hurt the kiddo. I would seriously urge all parents (new and pro's) to have their local highway patrol inspect their seat for safety. I know that Babies-r-us out here does free carseat checks periodically, so there is another resource. It can't hurt, and when it comes to our precious children, this is a 30 minute chunk of time I'm willing to give.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Neck Support and Soft Fabric, October 21, 2005
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
Its a great head rest and comes in two sizes that can be used together or alone. It provides a bit more support to newborns neck and head than many of the headrests that come included with the car seat and stroller sets. I did not know i needed this item as a first time mother until my sister (already a mom) told me to put this on my registry. I am glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many good uses!, October 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Knit Double Headrest - Navy (Baby Product)
This really is a "must have" item for a new Mom. You can use it in car seats, in bouncy chairs, in baby swings etc. I use mine in a bouncy chair that my newborn would not be able to sit in otherwise. A great purchase for the price. Definitely worthwhile to have on hand for whatever baby item needs extra head and neck support.
