six days on the road turned out to last for almost 30 years,

In the very early seventies a friend and I drove in an old Land Rover overland from Austria to Sri Lanka (way down southeast of anywhere).I had somehow gotten hold of a couple of Mcs by Dave Dudley. Up to then I had never heard of him. But gee, every town we left we played the six days on the road and another song called "one more mile" Boy, we spent more than six days on those roads and made more than one detour. From then on Dave Dudley has been a constant companion on the sometimes bumpy road of my life. I just wish, the guy would sing forever ! By the way, the other day I had an E-mail written by Dave and I can tell you, I have never been so thrilled in all my life, which has up to now lasted for almost 60 years.

Seattle Loves Dave & his purported sister "Miss Dudley",
By A Customer
This review is from: Trucker Classics (Audio CD)
Learned about "The Master" on Pat Cashman's morning KOMO-AM 1000 show where Dave is a lesser God. Never fails to raise the roof when Pat cranks up "Two six packs away"! Mr. Dudley is not defintiely NOT PC which makes things all the better...A woman with a charming southern accent who purports to be the adoring sister of Mr. Dudley lives in Seattle and occasionally calls in to the Pat Cashman show to extoll the virtues of her purported brother Dave Dudley. "Miss Dudley", as she calls herself, is a much loved, hilarious Seattle character who has added another level of relish to Dave Dudley's music.

Dudley's Done It Again!,

For those of you who have not been exposed to Dave Dudley's brilliance, buy this CD and you will be a fan forever! Before you know it you'll be shopping for an early 70's vintage Ford to have the proper forum to listen to DD's collection of "Trucker Classics". From start to finish you will have the feeling of cruizing the country backroads of West Virginia on a 95 degree summer day, riding "low in mean" in your Dave Dudley truck machine. It doesn't get any better than this folks!

One of a Kind,
This review is from: Trucker Classics (Audio CD)
This recording shows how they used to play country music in the old honky-tonk days. Although Dave Dudley was not from Bakersfield, his sound was as bare-bones as the great musicians that called that city home.
"Six Days on the Road" was his great classic, and along with "Truck Driving Man" (also included here) , "Phantom 309," (not on this CD), and a few others, represents the cream-of-the-crop of the classic truck driving songs. Some of the songs here were not hits, and some were hits for other people. Dave and his group do a fine job with all of them. These guys really know how to play country music. I especially enjoy the guitar licks. But the best part is Dave's deep, growling, distinctive voice. Mention Dave to any old trucker, and you'll have a new friend. No one else like Dave Dudley, and never will be.

I've had this CD for a little over a month and I can't seem to get it out of my truck's CD player. This is definitely one of those CD's that makes you want to drive a semi!!! This is my first Dave Dudley CD, but it certainly won't be my last. The instrumentation is not overkill, but when it's there, it just feels right. The highlights on this CD for me are Two Six Packs Away and Me and Ole CB. If you like Dale Watson and Junior Brown type stuff, you'll see where they got it from.

Dudley, Are You Kidding Me?,

Wow! Country music will never be the same! There I was sitting in the Lake Chelan Wasington heat, when I heard heaven coming across the airwaves. I asked my sweetie who was singing those tunes, and she said Dave Dudley. I'm a believer man! I married that gal, and Dave follows us wherever we go! Conway Twittie Who? Willie Nelson Who? Walen Jennings Who? It's over for me folks, Dudley is the country sole I've been searching for my whole life. Set your spirit free, take your shoes off, and walk through the country pastures of life with Dudley! You'll never look back!

DAVE DUDLEY, ICEBREAKER,
By A Customer
This review is from: Trucker Classics (Audio CD)
Several years ago, my good buddy's sister got married to the son of a genteel Southern family from Atlanta, or maybe S.Carolina , or somewhere well south of Cement City (n.y,). After the wedding and reception, everyone returned to the bride's family home for what would be the first meeting of the families close-up. There was some tension here, since in addition to being new in-laws, the groom's parents were "Southeners" and my buddy's family were Long Islanders (pronounced Lawn Guyland, since most of us here were born in Brooklyn). Being musically inclined, my buddy and his brothers and a couple of other guys broke out the guitars and the harmonica, and the very first song they played was "Six Days on the Road" It surprised the guests for a few seconds, but then everyone was either singing or keeping time by slapping their knees. The rest of the party went great, and the newlyweds lived happily ever after,I think, partially due to Dave Dudley. And I'm ordering me a mess of Dave's tapes right quick, ya hear!

NOT what I expected!!! Not the original Dave Dudley songs that I enjoyed. Must be later versions. Great old trucker songs, but the lyrics and music of even his songs are not the same as the originals. BIG LET DOWN!!! Look for earlier versions of this GREAT artist if you can find them!!

Good Driving Music From Sixties,
By

Glad I got this one, while in the Military, we all shared music, and I got to hear several Dave Dudley albums, eventually I taped over them as my stereo equipment improved. This one has some classics, well worth the cost. Six Days was my favorite, the girl on the billboard, the pool shark, me and old CB. The sound of the backgrounds is a classic of the period too. Everyone should have this album for driving 30-35 minutes, and some old Doors as well. It is what it is, every song is a classic.
All I need now is Give Me Forty Acres and I'll Turn This Rig Around. |
