The story is fun and lively and the zany illustrations are sure to appeal to truck lovers!,
This review is from: Snow Trucking! (Ready-To-Read Jon Scieszka's Trucktown - Level 1 (Quality)) (Paperback)
It's snowing on Tuesday. The streets and the Quonset hut have a light snow covering. On Wednesday Jack peeks out of the hut. "Snow day? He asks hopefully. The trucks inside the hut are anxious to go and are waiting for the radio to beep and signal that it is time to move out. All of a sudden Ted's radio comes alive and starts to beep. "Snow day!" The trucks are all excited and ready to roll!
Jack, Max, Gabby, Kat, Melvin, Pete and even Izzy are out on the streets preparing to clear the snow. Izzy is an ice cream truck and Jack says to him "not on a snow day," but all the rest are out to do their jobs. "Ready? Set? Snow day!" They are going to clear the streets. They skate and slide as if they are playing hockey. Melvin, the cement mixer, makes a snow truck and Big Rig mows it down. They even have a snowball fight. It's all in a day's work and they keep working. "We cleared ALL the streets." This is a Level 1, "Starting to Read" book. The story is fun and lively and the zany illustrations are sure to appeal to truck lovers, especially those who love to watch the plows go by on a snowy day. It would even have great appeal to the emergent reader as the visuals tell this lively story almost as well as the words do. If you're having a snow day in your town this is the perfect book to read until you can get to school again!

This is the 3rd trucktown book I have bought for my 2 yo son and he absolutely loves them. Since they are easy read, 1 sentence with a maximum of 4 words and lots and lots of onomatopea, he can "read" it. He memorized it after I read it to him a few times and now he "reads" it by himself. It was a lifesaver on the plane. Every time he sees a monster truck or a tow truck he calls them Max and Jack!

My kindergarten son loves the Trucktown books. The illustrations are great and the text is simple. I like it for a bedtime story when we're short on time. The sentences are short, but it is a beginning reader style book so that would be appropiate. The trucks have fun on a snow day. We can relate here in Michigan!
