I love this dough blender! I had for years been itching to buy a dough blender and had decided that the wire-types (like OXO's) would be too flimsy for me. 2.0 out of 5 stars Mine broke too!!!
I used this dough blender for not even 6 months, and the handle snapped! (mind you, I am not a pastry chef, so I was not using it everyday. I used it a handful of times.) I understand it has a 5 year warrenty, so i will try to get it replaced. I have to say that it worked great before it broke.

I love this dough blender! I had for years been itching to buy a dough blender and had decided that the wire-types (like OXO's) would be too flimsy for me. Many of the others I had looked at seemed uncomfortable or awkward to hold and use for long periods of time. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I bought this product, but I'm glad I did make the purchase.

I use my dough blender mostly to chop in chilled/frozen butter to make pie crusts. It's easy, speedy, and effective. I can obtain a smooth and consistent "breadcrumb" texture in a matter of minutes.

Very sturdy construction, thick metal doesn't fold or shift under pressure. The handle is very comfortable, shock absorbent, non-slip rubber, comfortably sized for one hand. The blender itself fits into a medium bowl and its curvature assists with the blending process. Because the blades/tines have some height (vs. wire tines), you will get bits and pieces stuck on them, but it's really easy to stick a finger or a sponge in between the tines and clean them out. Clean up is super easy. I was very pleased with this purchase.

2/23/06: Still works great! No problems yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke two times, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Trudeau Nonstick Dough Blender (Kitchen)
I have now bought this dough blender twice and it broke in the same spot (where the handle connects to the metal) both times. I thought it was a fluke the first time, so I bought another one, and only after 4 uses, it broke also. I think I'll try another brand next time.

The metal part is attached to plastic end-pieces that then pop into either side of the plastic handle. After a couple uses, the plastic pieces started popping out of the handle. The blender still works great, and the metal is sturdy enough that you can still use it though the end-pieces won't stay in the handle. My solution has been to keep a thumb pressed on the end-piece so at least one side stays in the handle as I am blending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Trudeau Nonstick Dough Blender (Kitchen)
You can not imagine how much trouble I had finding a pastry blender. This one is by far the best one I've used. The extended handle makes it easier to mash the food and the teflon coating makes cleanup a snap. I use it to mash avocados for guacamole or bananas for desserts and it really is so much easier than a fork. Very reasonably priced, too. Thanks a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pastry Work Horse, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Trudeau Nonstick Dough Blender (Kitchen)
I was put off by several of the customer reviews criticizing this dough blender. I make tarts, pies, quiches, and you name it every week. I've owned this product for months now and it is joy to use. The performannce has been 100% dependable.

It's strong and it feels good in my hand. I cut in butter with confidence.

I have to suspect that some of the naysayers might have some kind of affiliation with marketing for a competing product.

This one rocks.

3.0 out of 5 stars bent blades but still works, October 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trudeau Nonstick Dough Blender (Kitchen)
I was rather distressed when this arrived and the blades were somewhat bent (see my customer photo), but I gave it a try anyway because I figured it has got to work better than the "two knife" method I had been using to cut butter/shortening into my pastry dough for several years now.

Although I found the handle to be more awkward than ergonomic and I had to stop a couple of times to scrape off the excess dough creeping up the outside of the blades, I must admit this thing cuts in butter like a mofo...I was done sooooo much faster than before. I used a rather deep but somewhat narrow bowl for this, and I think a wider, shallower bowl would work better.

Overall I am satisfied with this dough blender, but I thought people should know that the blades may be bent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm, So far, September 23, 2007

If you need a pastry blender it's my experience that this is the best type to get. The sharpish, vertical blades do a great job of blending pastry and the non stick finish is a plus.

You can find less expensive ones (but not with the non-stick coating)but this one seems to work very well. The proof of the pudding will be if it still has all its blades attached in three or four years. Too early to tell that.
