I really liked it. It's a sturdy product with a great feel. Best one I've ever had until the wire broke. No problem!! It came with an extra wire. However, no one in my family can get the new wire in place! It appears to be a smidgen (very precise term of measurement....) too short. I get one little "cube" in place, but the other doesn't stretch far enough to get into its hole. My husband & I fiddled with it for a week. I wrote to the company, asking for help. I asked if there was a trick to using the replacement wire. I also expressed an interest in purchasing extra wires (to have on hand in case it breaks again). The instructions I received was a scan of the back of the packaging, telling me how to adjust the wire for different widths. *sigh* That wasn't the problem. I also found out that they do not sell replacement wires! You only get the one that comes with it. However I commend the company for their quick reply, and for their warranty. There is a 5 year warranty, and they will replace the entire slicer if both wires break. You do have to send in the "damaged" one. It really would be a whole lot simpler if they explained how to replace the wire, and offered additional wires (free or for a nominal fee) to their customers.

The slicer of choice,

This superb slicer has a couple of engineering differences from the run-of-the-mill wire slicer. Both make for durability and consistency:
1. The adjustment is done by moving the roller between three sets of notches, for thick, medium, and paper-thin. The common "slide the roller and tighten a screw" arrangement generally causes slippage, particularly after you've been using the slicer a few months, and you need to keep re-adjusting it. Not a problem with this unit. 2. The wire itself is held in place by two tiny cubes of metal slotted into holes in the slicer. This means that the wire is much less likely to loosen and break than a slicer wire that's held on by a pair of screws. The slicer is a good size and will handle large blocks of cheese with ease, and the handle is ergonomically shaped and covered in soft rubbery material. Overall I'm extremely satisfied for just a few dollars more than a cheap grocery-store wire slicer.

Simply the Best We Have Used!,

We are Dutch oven cooks here in the northwest and do a lot of classes for folks, cater, and demo. We believe in only having what you enjoy using to cook with in your camp kitchen, in your rv kitchen and in your home kitchen. We bought this slicer in January while in Baker City doing a class. Not only is it a nice heavy piece of equipment, it is so easy to use and adjust. There are three thickness adjustments, giving you extremely thin slices perfectly sliced all the time to nice cocktail thick slices, that look like they were done by the cheese packager before purchase. Nothing sticks. It is easy to clean. Slightly larger grip than normal, making it comfortable in the hand. We have recommended it to all our fellow cooks.

Macho Cheese Slicer,

This is a hefty kitchen tool--large, heavy, chrome. It fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to guide. I'm not sure why there are three "thickness" settings, since I've always been able to cut both thin and thick slices with a grocery-store-type cheese slicer by simply changing the angle of my hand as I slice: upright for thick slices, flatter for thin ones. This slicer works very well for me, and I had no trouble removing and replacing the wire. One slight inconvenience: when I hand-wash the slicer, the roller (the "adjustable" part of it) always falls out and has to be put back in. The slicer comes with a spare wire, and if you can remember where you store it, this unit should last for a long time. I'd recommend it.

This is the best hand-held slicer I've had. Its weight, size, design and sturdiness makes it easy to use. I bought this because it has a 5-yr warranty and I was tired of buying new cheese slicers all the time because of wires breaking. The first wire broke about 3 months after purchase. The replacement wire lasted 6 months. The replacement wire is hard to get in but once I got a pair of needle-nose pliers to help get the 2nd side in...no problem.
I just made an online claim and as long as they honor the claim and send me a replacement slicer or wires I'll be happy.

*Edit to my Nov 2007 review*
Nov 27, 2009...I'm back today to say that after eating 2 5lb blocks of cheese every month for about the last 2 years. I ended up purchasing 2 slicersin 2007 and am on the last wire. I'm bummed to find that Amazon is not stocking them now. I'll try to mail my broken wires and reciept to the company and get a replacement. I still love these cheese cutters, and it was VERY nice to have 2 of them handy for the last couple of years. *original* Well, I'm back for a second slicer after my two wires did break. Too bad I didn't keep the first broken wire as the one person said they have a 5 year replacement warranty... I have had many slicers that all break, I like this one the best so far mostly because of the replacement wire (even though it can be very tricky to get in). I've realized that I will replace slicers at least every other month (with eating about 2 1/2 lbs of cheddar cheese a week). We have kids and I don't want them using the sharp knives so, I'm buying another. I've had Kitchen Aid and other nice ones, but I'll stick with this kind, it's been 10 months since I bought it, which lasted much longer than any other. This time I'll keep the reciept, and the parts for when it breakes and maybe get a free third one.

I am very happy with this item. It does a good job of slicing cheese. I would have liked it better had it been a little smaller. It is a good sturdy tool.

I ordered this slicer from Amazon.com and I'm back again looking for another one but this time without a wire. Now, it's my turn to hopefully help someone from making the same mistake I did with the purchase of this cheesy wire slicer. Before long you will be cutting convex slices of cheese due to the wire stretching, and put up with it until you feel the need to change the wire. When you make the decision that it's time for a change I hope you get the wire in place and ready for more slicing, but if not; 'cause the new wire won't stretch enough to get the brass squares into place for the screws, even with needle nose pliers, you'll be back here looking for another slicer without a wire while this one rests in a garbage can.
