neat but doesn't work on all nuts, March 29, 2007
This review is from: Trudeau Rotary Nut Cracker (Kitchen)
Pro:
The chamber keeps shell fragments from shooting about and making a mess.
Cons:
It doesn't work if the nut is too small or the wrong shape.
There's not enough leverage for really hard or big nuts. Those nuts are easier to crack with hinged nut crackers, but then you have a mess of shell fragments.

Cracks nuts!, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Trudeau Rotary Nut Cracker (Kitchen)
I bought this nutcracker exclusively for cracking hazelnuts, and it works flawlessly. My first attempt I twisted the nutcracker all the way around, spewing shells across the room and split my nut into tiny pieces. I've since learned not to continue twisting after hearing the nut crack, and everything is fine. I never thought to register for a nutcracker when I got married earlier this year... it turns out to be a must have. I would definitely recommend this product.

Innovative nutcracker, December 9, 2007
This review is from: Trudeau Rotary Nut Cracker (Kitchen)
People with carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, or other conditions that limit hand strength or wrist flexibility should try this innovative nutcracker. It requires minimal effort, and the design is elegant and geeky / fascinating in a "better mousetrap" way.
But don't expect to unwrap this and start shelling nuts in quantity for a recipe. Figuring out the best placement for a nut is an interesting puzzle. The two sides of the central hub are optimized for different sized nuts. A walnut seems too big, but with a little experimentation, a walnut-sized compartment appears, in goes the nut, and crrrack! However, the previous reviewer may be correct about very small or very hard nuts (such as Brazil nuts); I have not tried them yet.
I'm buying these as stocking stuffers, and will keep mine close by that cornucopia of fruit and nuts, along with the traditional lobster-cracker style nutcracker, the turn-of-the-screw style nutcracker, Nutty Squirrel, etc.
