I was first attracted to this interesting measuring cup by the unusual shape. Once I tried to use it, however, it was a really worthless measuring cup. I suggest that you not buy it.

Although it is not an ideal measure for very hot liquids since the heat will transfer from the wall of the container to your hand, the lack of a handle allows it to be stored in a fairly small space. Overall good product.

I highly recommend it. I've never had any problems with it. Measurements are accurate, there is really no need to put it in the microwave, and if the product inside is too hot, you can use oven mitts. A very practical, durable and sturdy kitchen tool.

This excellent kitchen tool has metric conversions right next to the US measurements, which makes it a perfect item for the international gourmet/chef.
Very affordable, and durable, its shape makes it really easy to hold and handle with bare hands.
Using a real stove to heat your liquids in a pan (the good old fashioned way) eliminates any "risks" of getting scalded...

My sister gave me this measuring beaker. It is unique because it measures liquid and dry ingredients precisely.

It has a tall, slender shape that is top-heavy and easy to knock over, even if you are being careful. It has weight markings for sugar and flour, but trying to measure dry ingredients in a liquid measuring cup is very inaccurate, so these markings are worthless. The label claims to be microwave safe, but it is made from polycarbonate and I have melted similar items in my microwave before. I do not plan to test the microwave safety of this cup. Since it does not have a handle, once you fill it with hot liquid you cannot pick it up with your bear hands.

All in all, a badly designed product that you should avoid.

5.0 out of 5 stars USEFUL AND AFFORDABLE ITEM, December 22, 2010

This beaker has a wonderfully unique shape, which makes it fit nicely in your hand for a good grip. It's very well made with a heavy-duty construction to last a long time. I like that you can use it to measure both dry and liquid ingredients. The slender design makes it super easy to level your dry ingredients for proper measuring. Also, if you measure your dry first, you won't have to dirty a lot of measuring cups (the less dishes to wash, the better). This is a bargain you shouldn't pass up.

NOTE: I'm not sure how many people actually try to measure liquids while they're scalding hot; sounds dangerous to me no matter what device you're using. To be safe, if it is necessary to have your ingredient that hot, try measuring first and then heating in a pan on the stove.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite measuring cup, September 19, 2010

I use this all the time! I especially appreciate it with the increasing number of European cookbooks I have that so often call for flour, sugar in grams....I plan to get a second one so it's easy to use one for liquids, one for dry ingredients.

A little bite of my knowledge of my experience with this item so others purchasing this item don't have my experience or worse the possible outcome.. This is my correspondence with the Trudeau Corporation.

Measuring beaker

MESSAGE :
Sometime in the last few months I contacted your office by phone because my Trudeau Measuring Beaker item #099411019 which I purchase on Amazon.com was getting cracks in it. The reason I contacted you is I had purchased a second beaker that I had put away and had never used which I purchased because I was so happy with yours and it looked like Amazon was going to discontinue them. Now I called you then because the one I was using had started to get cracks on the inside and since what I do is microwave milk to make coffee a couple times a day the milk was starting to leak out. At the time we spoke I had like I mentioned the one I was using and another which I had to start using because of the leak. You sent me a replacement and the broken one was thrown away and I started to use the new one that I had put away. When your new one arrived it was put away also like the last one as a backup. But now im starting to have the same problem again with the new one. It has several small cracks and is starting to leak also. These cracks are not made because its being dropped its happening I can only assume because of the microwaving process. The reason i use these beakers instead of a traditional cup to heat up milk in the microwave is because the are so large when you add the coffee and you stir you dont have the possibility of spilling and then just transfer it after to a cup. I love these Beakers but it does not seam that they are 100% microwave safe. I always put the beaker with milk to heat in the microwave for the same time period which is 1 1/2 minutes because any more and it could possibly spill over. Now I have to start using the one you sent me to replace the other one which I also had the same issue with. These are lasting no more than 6 months I would say. If you look through your files you would see the replacement sent to me on file im not exactly sure the date but I do see on my Amazon statement that I ordered my second beaker on November 20, 2010 and it was a few months after that when you replaced the original one which was purchased September 9, 2010. If you would like send me your email and I will send you pictures of the beaker I have next to the new one so you see the cracks and that the new one you sent me hasnt been used barely only seldom when the other is in the sink. Thanks

And their response from them was as follows..

Please see the response from our Product Developer. Also note that I will be sending you out a replacement. Please provide me with a correct mailing address and attach all correspondence to this email.

Thank you.

Hi Sue,

This "measuring" beaker is microwave safe, but not necessarily designed or expected to be used in a microwave a couple of times a day... Fine cracks after 6 months of intense use like this is probable.

Since this consumer took the time to write so much... you can send him another one but would also recommend him to use a tall mug or something else for extensive microwave use.

Cheers

And my response back to them was..

First of all.. Thanks for the prompt response..

Though.. The response from the "Product Developer" is in no way a correct response.. If a product is "Dishwasher & microwave safe" as stated on your website for the item.. It does not matter whether its micro waved twice a day or twice a month.. "Dishwasher & microwave safe" means simply "Dishwasher & microwave safe".. Just like a disclaimer that states "safe for children under 5 years of age" doesn't mean only when the child uses it once a month..

The interesting thing will be when one day someone doesn't bother to report the issue to you and thinks that it's just humidity off the side of the beaker.. Only to find one day while taking it out of their microwave that through one or more of those cracks hot liquid spills out and burns the consumers body..

Then that response from the "Product Developer" is not going to matter much in court for the Trudeau Corporation when a lawyer reads the "Dishwasher & microwave safe" disclaimer on your website and on the products packaging.. But it's your call if you wish to take the wrought of accepting that response from your product developer that's your call.. I would just make sure you have good insurance just in case that scenario one day comes true..

SO USE THIS PRODUCT KNOWING THAT IN REALITY "Dishwasher & microwave safe" DOES NOT REALLY MEAN THAT to the manufacturer "Trudeau Corporation"...
