Trudeau's basic 7-piece chocolate fondue set is a starter kit; it's small enough for apartment settings, and its basic black-and-white look can fit in with just about any kitchen or dining scheme. (Trudeau also offers similar sets specifically for cheese and meat fondues.)
A chocolate fondue is traditionally served with cubes of pound cake and sliced or whole fruits such as apples, pears, bananas, or strawberries. The white stoneware bowl is broad and shallow to help keep the chocolate uniformly melted as it sits above a single candle flame. Each stainless steel fondue fork has a black plastic handle to shield hands from heat and a different colored finial, so fondue dippers can keep track of whose fork is whose. The bowl has an indented lip that fits into the sturdy black metal tripod stand, which has rubberized pads on each of its three feet to prevent scratching or slipping. (Use this fondue set on a bare table or counter for best results; setting it on a tablecloth could be hazardously slippery.)
The stoneware bowl and fondue forks are dishwasher safe; the bowl is also safe for use in the microwave. This 7-piece set from Trudeau comes with a basic chocolate fondue recipe. I absolutely loved the design of this and therefore I spent a little more than what I planned for. I am very happy with the stoneware bowl and other accessories but thought the black metal stand would be of better quality. It is really thin and a little flimsy looking.
