Never an egg fail!,

We now have both the single and the double Trudeau egg poacher. Having used several other microwave poachers, I can say that not only is the Trudeau design easy to use and clean up, but that it is the ONLY one that has NEVER had an "egg fail"--that is, when despite plenty of fork-stabs to the yolk to prevent it from happening, the egg literally explodes in the microwave, resulting in a horrid mess to clean up. Poached eggs made in the microwave are so much faster than using a pan and boiling water. Try it!!

egg cooker cooks good, easy to clean,
This review is from: Trudeau Silicone Single Egg Poacher, Yellow (Kitchen)
This egg cooker works well and is pretty easy to clean. About 50 seconds on full power cooks a large egg just right in my microwave oven. If you are looking for a single egg cooker this one works well. Just remember to break the yoke before you cook it.

We looked all over for a single egg maker. This one goes right into the microwave and cooks to perfection. Just be certain you clean it right after you're done. Once the egg dries on it isn't that easy to remove. :)

This little device is a great idea, but I still haven't figured out the timing on doing a poached egg in the microwave. Just when I think it's perfect, I try and flip it out of the little container (which is easy), it's hard as a rock. It's impossible to judge how the egg has turned out because it still looks jiggly, but isn't.
I had a different style of these, which were basically just loose, curved pieces of silicone. They were easier to gauge because the shape was more freeform, so I could just pick up one corner and give it a jiggle. All in all, I think it's a good device. I just need to figure out the timing. It's certainly easy to get the contents out, and it's easy to clean (especially if used with a little cooking spray )

Used this for the first time today - made my best poached egg ever! I just put the egg in (no cooking spray). I followed the advice of other comments and poked the yolk with a toothpick first. I don't know if that made a difference. Then I cooked it at 80% power for 40 seconds (brief instructions say "medium" power for 35-45 secons). Came out great. So glad I bought this product. Easy cleanup too.

I have a newborn, and often don't have time in the mornings to cook my husband breakfast before he leaves for work. I bought this for him so he could easily make his own egg.
The egg cooking instructions are wrong, at least for my microwave. It takes 50 seconds on high, not 30-45 on medium. My microwave is perfectly average for everything else I cook, so I don't know why it would be different for an egg. The lid doesn't attach well, so when the egg pops a bit the lid shifts. One time the lid came off completely and egg got all over the microwave. It's hard to clean, for some reason, even though it's silicone. I expected the egg to just slide right out, but it doesn't. I have to use a fork or spoon to loosen it, and little bits of egg are practically glued to the thing. This makes no sense to me. I have a Silpat, which is a silicone baking mat, and nothing at all will stick to that. How is this silicone different? Overall, though, it still cooks a decent egg for my husband in the morning. We're using it, and we won't be returning it. If I had to get another, though, I'd go with a different product.

quicker (and healthier) than ANY other way to cook an egg, this little george jetson-looking gadget looks funny, but makes one poached egg in 20 seconds (on high if you're in a hurry, or 30-40 seconds on medium). You CAN use it in the skillet if you're more of a traditionalist, too.
I've tried to poach eggs the old fashioned way (boiling water, carefully slide eggs into, scoop out) and its always a mess and takes FOREVER. These come out perfect every time! (aim for LESS time in the microwave if you prefer less cooked eggs... warning they WILL get rubbery if you overcook--each microwave is an eek different so some trial and error is required) Got my first one at the Crate & Barrel outlet, but only got one and they were gone when i went back! Foudn on amazon and ordered a few for gifts. For the price, it's a fun gadget to add to a basket of goodies for the newlyweds, or for college grads who don't do anything but microwave yet. happy poaching!

It took a while to get the right settings for my 1100 watt microwave.
I get the yolk slightly congealed after 135 seconds at 30% power with the cover on. (After 130 seconds the yolk is runny as well as some of the white. At 140 seconds the yolk is cooked.) I start with a refrigerated large egg and I do not break the yolk with a toothpick. The egg slips out with a fork, no oil needed. Put it on dry wheat toast over a dab of blue cheese, and add fresh ground pepper. |
