Editorial Reviews

Elektra Records and HBO have joined forces once again for 'True Blood: Music From The HBO® Original Series Volume 2.' The album follows last year's Grammy Award nominated 'True Blood:Music From The HBO® Original Series,' which featured tracks from the acclaimed HBO drama's first season, including the sultry theme song, 'Bad Things' performed by Jace Everett. Volume 2 follows suit with an all-star track list including Bob Dylan, Beck, Lucinda Williams with Elvis Costello and more.

Going into the third season critics across the country have proclaimed TRUE BLOOD one of the best new shows on TV. TRUE BLOOD was the winner of two Emmys in 2009 for 'Best Drama Series' and 'Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series'. The show was also nominated for Golden Globes Award- Best Television Series - Drama. USA Today called it 'wildly imaginative,' with 'one of the best ensembles of the new series,' while the Washington Post found it 'audacious, outrageous and playfully grisly.' TV Guide hailed the show as 'graphically sexy and scary, and often wildly funny,' and 'a broadly entertaining, deliciously twisted slice of modern Southern Gothic.'

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, TRUE BLOOD takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans for their fix. Set in a backwoods Louisiana town, the show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin, 2009 Golden Globe winner for her role), who can read minds, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer). Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy-winning HBO series Six Feet Under®) created and executive produced the show, as well as wrote and directed episodes of the series, which is based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

The hugely anticipated third season of 'True Blood' is slated to premiere on HBO on June 13th, while True Blood: The Complete Second Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 25th.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get the "Deluxe Version" June 10, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A great album, but the track from Headbone is only on the Deluxe edition. Both have the same cover artwork, and I mistakenly purchased the standard version, to my huge disappointment.

However, the deluxe edition does contain explicit lyrics, so if you're shopping for a kid...wait, you let your kids watch True Blood? Never mind, swearing isn't your biggest problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crybaby reviwers wreck ratings system May 15, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I'd like to address the person who gave 2 stars: in each episode, there are many songs, so across the season, there are enough to fill several CDs. If you do a Google search, you can find a playlist for each episode. You'll see that almost every song is in fact available as an MP3 download on Amazon. That allows you to tailor a personal faves CD. That's why you should *sample* the music to make sure they are the songs YOU want, and almost all of them can be sampled. My husband and I love the selection on this CD because it has an overall thematic style that is for when you are in the mood for that type of music. That being said, many great songs from the season that weren't like these didn't get on here, and some of this style was overlooked - but hey, there are 18 songs which is more than usual. It's not fair to give a low rating to a CD because YOU didn't do YOUR homework as a consumer. Each song on here is a good one for it's style which is why I'm giving it a 5 star rating. I'm getting so annoyed with crybabies who don't do their research, or rate an item low when they are unhappy with the seller. Like *duh* kids, there are SELLER ratings for each transaction. This section is for ITEM ratings. You are supposed to rate the item based on criteria that actually make sense to use for that item. Smarten up already so this system can actually work better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw and Primal December 5, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Like the show it supports, this music lets out a throaty, organic wail that doesn't let go. It runs from blues and early rock (Screamin' Jay Hawkins and some Willie Dixon covers) to alternative country (Chuck Prophet and Buddy & Julie Miller) to progressive electronic rock (Beck and King Britt) without the slightest hiccup. It punches you in the gut, drags you through the swamp, and wakes you with a hard splash of warm bayou water.

Just like True Blood, this album taps primal emotions, core fears, and the desire to cut loose and run wild. Its guitar-driven instrumentals and shouting vocals tap a part of our souls which society would silence. If you ever feel too cheerful, too weak, or too distant from your raw roots in the primeval soup, this CD will fill your bill. But be warned: it's muscular and unrefined, and once it gets its hooks in, it won't let go easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars so much better... June 8, 2010
Format:Audio CD
if you're a trubie like so many of us are ...then you'll buy most anything that comes along that has even the slightest hint of 'blood.' I have volume 1 - wasn't in love with it. volume 2 is so much better! It has another excellent bluesy song by jace... and many other great tracks. point being, i'm very happy to be listening to it right now as i type this review :)=

4.0 out of 5 stars Ecletic mix of dark themed music - but still good July 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Received this as a gift. We're ardent True Blood fans. This mix of eclectic dark-themed music sets the tone for more True Blood viewing. We've started listening more closely to the sound track to see if we hear any of these songs while watching the series.
I would have liked to have the Jace Everett theme song as a bonus (yes, I know it's on the season 1 CD) but still like the odd-ball tunes. One of them is stuck in my head as I write

5.0 out of 5 stars My discovery of soundtrack music. September 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
For years, I've been purchasing music as artist specific compilations. But after really liking a series of music, (I think it was the Juno soundtrack that did it for me), I started collecting them. I say, let others put serious thought into an artist compilation for you. No! but I like about 80% of them. And to me that's more than worth it. I can't image the time it would take to have been exposed to the variety that is here. And I love discovering new musicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh True Blood February 26, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Again, I love this soundtrack. The only person in my house who does not like it is the cat. Apparently the cat really really hates harmonica music.
