Biography

As a producer, bandleader, arranger, songwriter, session musician and all-around musical eminence, Allen Toussaint impacted the New Orleans music scene of the Sixties in much the same way that Dave Bartholomew had in the Fifties. Toussaint, in fact, apprenticed under Bartholomew at sessions for such legends as Fats Domino, so it was a seamless transition when the R&B baton passed between ... Elektra Records and HBO have joined forces to put together a riveting collection of songs that connect TRUE BLOOD fans with the hit HBO series. The TRUE BLOOD soundtrack includes the show theme song 'Bad Things' by Jace Everett and features artists such as C.C Adcock, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, Allen Toussaint, The Legendary Shack Shakers, The Watson Twins and more. The songs featured on the soundtrack were included in Season 1 of the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad start, but could be better May 20, 2009
By calital
Format:Audio CD
HBO's series True Blood is edgy, sexy, and brilliant. Each episode is chock full of fantastic, Louisiana swamp-inspired, good ole suth'n, vampire hell raisin' music. This CD is a good start, but could have been much better.

The instrumental background music is pure brilliance thanks to composer Nathan Barr. Where are his haunting melodies and theme songs for the major stars of this show: Bill, Sookie, and even Eric? His music has been grossly overlooked and he certainly deserves his own CD.

There are other wonderful songs from this series that add more flavor and spice to the show which should have been chosen. They are memorable scene enhancers or ending credit songs which would certainly help draw new viewers to the show, as well as titilate the addicted fans and numerous blog sites. Songs such as: "Red Eyes and Tears by the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club; "Half of You" by Cat Powers; "Sweet Jane" by the Cowboy Junkies; "Lullaby" by the Dixie Chicks; "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd; "Freefall" by Pitch Black; "Snake in the Grass" by Vallejo; and "Cold Ground" by Rusty Truck".

Thankfully we have HBO.com and the True Blood community for providing us die hard fans with a complete song inventory for each episode because the songs on this CD are only a half hearted attempt at re-capturing the greatness of this show.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great start, but missing instrumentals June 3, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Vampires never seem to go out of style. In the sexy, highly addictive HBO series True Blood, vampire romance is given yet another go, this time in the fictional town of Bon Temps in rural Louisiana. The show follows the strange adventures of telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse, vampire Bill Compton and other townspeople in Bon Temps. Bill has decided to go "mainstream" after vampires came "out of the coffin" and feed on the synthetic "True Blood" invited by a Japanese scientist, rather than on that of people. The show is based off the popular nine-volume (and growing) Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris.

True Blood -Music from the HBO Original Series is just as addictive and intoxicating as the show it comes from. Each of the tracks included here are completely originally and written specifically for the True Blood series. From the bayou to the bar, every song here captures the strange tension between the rural, country South and the bizarre, supernatural happenings around Bon Temps.

The best feature of the soundtrack is the song "Bad Things," by Jace Everett, the theme song of True Blood. While the shortest song in the bunch, it packs the most punch with a catchy, twangy country tune and a blatant message that perfectly fits the series. Even if you've never seen an episode of True Blood before, this song will make you want to get up and move.

While many other songs on the CD don't quite live up to "Bad Things," others such as "Bleed 2 Feed" and "I Don't Wanna Know" will still get the blood going. Even some of the slower, more romantic ballads here such as "Strange Love" and "Two" have a beauty all their own and help bring out the emotional underside of this edgy, mesmerizing soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Fangtasia" song June 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Velouria, I went to the "True Blood" site & they list all the songs in each episode, along with in what scene each is playing. [...] As Bill & Sookie walk into Fangtasia (Episode 4), the song is "Don't Fear the Reaper", performed by Heaven 17. As someone who remembers, it was originally done by Blue Oyster Cult. Hope this helps!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best August 20, 2009
Format:Audio CD
The series "True Blood" has one of the best soundtracks in television. It is a shame that out of the seventy-seven odd songs used for the first season, only a meager few were included in this compilation.

Unless you're specifically looking for the background music written for this show, I recommend going to truebloodwiki:
[...]

and reviewing the entire song list for the series. Then use your favorite music service to purchase individual tracks, all of which are available for sale individually on artist CDs.

3.0 out of 5 stars True Blood soundtrack January 19, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
make sure you know which soundtrack you're buying...this one is music clips from scenes in the show, it's NOT the songs they play at the end of each show...

4.0 out of 5 stars True Blood Soundtrack January 18, 2011
Format:Audio CD
This `True Blood Soundtrack' has a great selection of tracks from, and inspired by, the TV series of the same name. Of course you get the excellent title track `Bad Things' by Jace Everett but you also get some other great songs as well. Most have a country/blues feel to them and some are softer, whilst other are low down and dirty. Examples of the former are `Two' By Ryan Adams which a is a great county ballad and of the latter `Swampblood' by The Legendary Shack Shakers, which has some amazing harmonica playing on it. There is also a good booklet which talks about some of the music on offer, as well as having photos of actors from the series. If you like the music from the TV series then this is the place to go and if you are after a good country/blue compilation then this is worth considering for that as well.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

3.0 out of 5 stars dissapointing
The main title composed for TRUE BLOOD ("Bad Things") is perfect. The lyics are excellent and so is the delivery by Jace Everett. The rest of the tracks are mediocre at best.
