A young humpback whale loves to show off, but his friends have become tired of watching him. Looking for a new audience, he swims too near to a boat. An old blue whale warns him away from people, telling him about the dangers of men. Dismissing the blue whale's advice as just the product of an old man, even after hearing the same warnings from his mother, the young humpback again finds himself drawn toward a boat. Suddenly, he's caught in a net with no way out and no idea what to do. The appearance of the old blue whale and his quick thinking save the humpback and the two swim away, the younger one assuring the older that he's learned a lesson.

This is a hardcover with a very pretty, glossy cover with an illustration of a happy young humpback whale. The story of not heeding advice the first time is one that young kids (and plenty of adults) can relate to and the happy outcome and lesson learned is a message worth sharing. More than that, with the contents of the interactive CD that's included, the book is more than just a story. The lessons are "aligned to National Science Education Standards and state standards" and vary from small games to more traditional classroom material. This is learning at it's "funnest" and not to be missed. For homeschoolers and parents who choose to supplement the classroom or just research something interesting and new, this is a wonderful book for Earth Day and any other time that conservation can be slipped into the conversation.
