Embolden with true courage,
By
This review is from: True Courage: Emboldened by God in a Disheartening World (Bold Man of God) (Paperback)
"True Courage" by Steve Farrer is a look at Daniel and how we can apply the courage that Daniel showed into our growth as Christians. For many, its a walk that was going strong, only to be interrupted by life circumstances, or maybe its just a continual life long journey that we sometimes go forward and sometimes go backwards.Showing us how in and through our Heavenly Father, we can have the courage to face the lions in our den, "True Courage" is about doing things that are counter intuitive to what the modern world would teach us. Inspiring and strong and written with a layman style that, particularly, in today's world of uncertainty, will help those who find themselves struggling not only with just "why", but "how" and "what", "True Courage" is about tomorrow may change, but God is bigger than all of our circumstances. This is a book that is well worth reading for those who find themselves struggling with courage while facing their lions. Thank you to Audra Jennings of TBB Media for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Steve Farrar has written another biblical and practical winner. I have read all of Farrar's books and this practical exposition on the first 6 chapters of the Book of Daniel does not disappoint. A good friend of mine recommended I read this book because we are both going through a tough time - much like Daniel - feeling like aliens in a foreign land, fearful or our countries direction, and having our faith tested in the fire.Desperate times sometimes make us desperate, but the reality is that God is still on the throne and sovereign over all and uses his own people through their courage and convictions as thy take a stand for Him. Farrar writes, "In a nutshell, Daniel displayed True Courage by: Fearing God more than man; Trusting God with his future; and Realizing God's governance over all events. Farrar develops these themes throughout the book with many excellent illustrations, examples, and applications of how genuine courage is derived from fearing, trusting, and realizing God's sovereign rule over the universe and our individual lives. The book of Daniel is a tremendously encouraging book for our own times, and Farrar does a phenomenal job of showing its relevancy and numerous applications from its exposition of it, so that we can overcome our fears, worries, anxieties, and become strengthened because we have an all omniscient, omnipotent, and sovereign God who will give us the courage and grace we need sufficiently for each day - as he did for Daniel several thousand years ago. I highly recommend this book as one that will better equip you to be a courageous man or woman of God in these difficult days.

Ever since Steve Farrar wrote Point Man, he has been churning out books aimed the hearts and minds of men. Farrar has consistently called men to holiness. He has called them to lead their families. He has called them to lead in their churches. His latest book calls Christian men to demonstrate True Courage. The author points readers to Daniel (specifically Daniel 1-6) and argues that this man is an example of true courage. Indeed, "True courage is the result of knowing God." The man who displays true courage fears God more than man, trusts God with his future, and realizes that God governs all events. The simple point: Since God ordains everything that comes to pass, Christian men must bank on this reality and muster true courage in these last days. Steve Farrar maintains his commitment to the authority of Scripture in this helpful volume. He cites the great heroes of the Christian faith and stands on the shoulders of the Puritans and Reformers. His work is encouraging and will serve men well - especially men who seek to be men of true courage.

I was a college student in Dallas, TX the first time I heard Steve speak at a College men's conference in 1998. I remember walking away from that weekend challenged and changed by the what Steve spoke about. From that point on I have read every book that Stever has read, and have honestly enjoyed them all. It's been a while since Steve has come out with a book, and he eludes to that in this book, so when True Courage came out I picked it up and settled into a great read.Unfortunately I was a little dissappointed in the book. First, let me say that if this was not a Steve Farrar book I probably would have rated it a little higher, but with great writing comes great expectations and this book just doesn't measure up to the other books that Farrar has written in the last 20 or so years. Farrar uses the narrative portions of the book of Daniel as his foundation, and I think that was a great idea, but Farrar just barely skims the surface of the content found in those chapters, and left me wondering why we wern't going deeper. I guess what I am saying is that this could have been better, a lot better. For the person who has never read a Steve Farrar book this may be a good introduction, BUT if you want to read Farrar at his best read: Point Man Finishing Strong, or King Me

I have been a fan of Steve Farrar for many years - he's a straight shooter when dealing with men's issues. I received True Courage as a gift from my wife and it couldn't have come at a better time. I am in my late fifties and am unemployed for the first time in my life.True Courage helped me again solidify what scripture says about God's soventry over our lives and our future. Farrar's uses many personal illustrations and applications from his life throughout the text as he deals with trusting God. His writing style is nearly a conversation - casual and comfortable.

Many lessons can be learned from the life of Daniel. One of those lessons would be to trust God no matter our circumstances. Steve Farrar uses Daniel's life as an example in True Courage. In these uncertain times, it's easy to fear and forget that God is in control. But this book will remind us to keep our eyes not on what is seen... but on what is unseen.Steve Farrar's explanation 'in a nutshell' says... "Daniel displayed True Courage by: *Fearing God more than man *Trusting God with his future *Realizing God's governance over all events True Courage is the result of knowing God." And true courage is what we desperately need today. 'Living in uncertain times, having the unexpected happen, worries about how we will care for our loved ones... this book is a great lesson on focusing on God and knowing that He is in control. Like Daniel, we need to trust God and keep living life. I read Point Man by Steve Farrar years ago and loved it. So, when I was offered the chance to review True Courage I was very excited. He is a great writer and speaker and has so much Biblical wisdom to share, I know you won't be disappointed when you read this book. I highly recommend it. *I received this book for free from The B&B Media Group for my honest review. ~Thanks! :)

A blessing for the ladies too!,
This review is from: True Courage: Emboldened by God in a Disheartening World (Bold Man of God) (Paperback)
This is one of those books you never want to end. I savored it. Sipped it up in little snippets. Amazed that each time I sat down with it, even for just a few minutes, I came away refreshed.Yes, Farrar generally wrote this book for guys, but it will bless anyone who reads it. It is a well needed book in a time of uncertanty. Simply put, this book is looking at the book of Daniel and having a Bible Study on it. Each main aspect of the book of Daniel is looked at and examined. In the sneakiest of ways...I seriously didn't even realize that is what the book was doing until I was over half done with it! Farrar does such a wonderful job of describing the situation, background and thoughts of the characters that you hardly realize you are studing the Bible. The book of Daniel shows the life of a small handful of men who had great faith in God despite the world falling apart around them. This is what we as Christians need to remember today. 'No matter what happens tomorrow, we have no need to fear. In fact, we can have a calm peace and confidence that things are going to turn out good. Will it be exactly as we want at all times? Probably not, but we love and serve a God who has promised that He will use it for Good. We believe in a God who is in control. He knows our tomorrow. He will never leave us or forsake us. We can trust Him. Believing and having faith in our God is what will get us through today and everyday, no matter what happens. The paycheck my not come or the mountains may fall into the sea, still we can have peace knowing that we are exactly in the perfect plan of our Lord. I was greatly blessed by this book. May you be blessed today knowing that your Savior is carrying you at this very moment and cherishes you more than you will ever know. Can't wait to read through this one again! Daniel is one of my favorite people from the Bible and I love to read non-fiction that studies his life. I love that the many lessons from Daniel's life can be so easily adapted to my own, and that the Lord seems to teach me something new each time I either read the book of Daniel or a book studying the book.Recently I had the opportunity to read True Courage by Steve Farrar and he does a phenomenol job at showing the reader how to learn from the life of Daniel, despite the circumstances we may find ourselves in. Farrar writes in a very easy-to read and comprehend manner, and is also very sound theologically. I feel that True Courage is a wonderful source of inspirational and a wonderful reminder that whatever we are going through, regardless of what the journey is, God will never leave us nor forsake. Just as He gave Daniel the courage and strength to walk through his journey (at times very difficult), He will also give us the same courage. If only we let Him. True Courage by Steve Farrar has been a very challenging yet inspiring book, and I highly recommend it!

Discover God's remedy for fear.We all face fear. We're afraid for our finances, for our jobs, for our children in this increasingly immoral culture, and we fear for our country as it shifts away from God's principles. Sometimes it seems as though fear is constant. But there is a truth that offers courage to every believer who finds it: God is in control. Even when things seem to be out of control, God has it under control. Mr. Farrar uses the life of the prophet Daniel to illustrate a powerful profile in courage. Daniel was taken from his homeland, stripped of his name, and thrown into a godless culture. He faced a future with little hope. Yet, Daniel was able to live by faith--not by what was seen. In TRUE COURAGE, Mr. Farrar draws from the timeless story of Daniel, a man who altered the course of a nation. And Mr. Farrar shows how we too can find the courage to rise above life's circumstances all while trusting God who never abandons His children. If you are looking for courage in these uncertain times, then TRUE COURAGE is a book to consider.

I am a Steve Farrar fan and he has some great books out there. For me, this was not one of them. If you're struggling with fear, as I am, this may not be the book for you. Honestly, it scared me. Dire predictions of the anti-Christ and comments like "Things will not get better-they will get worse and worse....", just really weren't the "Hope" I was looking for.
