Rocky Votolato - True Devotion, March 22, 2010
This review is from: True Devotion (Audio CD)
The biggest criticism lobbed against Rocky Votolato is that all of his records sound the same, but to any of his many faithful fans this is far from a weakness. Rocky has an ability to take the simplest of elements and use them to construct timeless, comfortable songs of superb sincerity. It's the kind of music you want to retreat into after a long day--the glass of whiskey as you kick your shoes off. They are songs that feel familiar and welcoming yet refreshing all the same, like a Sunday nap on a summer porch or a solitary swim in a deserted fishing hole. For many, Rocky Votolato feels like home.

Rocky Votolato truly withstands the test of time. This mans songs have been with me for over a decade and they never fail to touch me in a way no other songs have. There are those coming of age albums that only last so long until you out grow them or you can't relate to them anymore. So many records in my collection are useless to me these days, they just gather dust in my garage. Every Rocky album is a great collection of songs that bring out indescribable emotion. This album is no exception! It did take about a month for it to fully grow on me and the album is a tad short but definitely worth your time and money. Please support this musician so that we can look forward to many more albums to come.
