The True Fabrications Double Hinged Corkscrew was one of four waiter's corkscrews that I bought at the same time through Amazon. It was the least expensive. I use my Laguiole 3-5 times per week and wanted a backup. I chose these four based upon other reviews and price: True Fabrications Double Hinged Corkscrew, Epicureanist Waiter's Wine Corkscrew with Bone Handle, Prestige by Coutale Sommelier - Wood Inlay and Pulltap's Professional Waiter's Corkscrew with Double Lever - Bellini. The total that I spent was still less than a third of the cost for another Laguiole.

All are fine looking pieces with wood inlaid and double-hinged fulcrum, except for the Epicureanist, with a bone inlaid handle and single-hinged fulcrum. I've always used a single-hinged fulcrum and have never had a problem pulling a cork. Maybe as I get older, I'll appreciate the double-fulcrum more. All the corkscrews are sturdy enough to stand up to my needs.

The True Fabrications Double Hinged Corkscrew is the least expensive and is well balanced/proportioned. I would say that it is second to the Prestige by Coutale. Features that I like most are 1) Teflon coated corkscrew, which makes it a little easier to screw in (again maybe I'll appreciate it more as I get older) and 2) the ease with which the fulcrum, corkscrew and foil cutter swing out (The others took more effort to swing out).

The True Fabrications is definitely the "best value" of the four and the one that I would recommend to those who use a corkscrew frequently like I do.

As a server, I use this wine key EVERYDAY and I'm so thankful for it! It's got a great weight to it that makes it feel wonderfully reliable, the alignment of the corkscrew is the best I'd had, the knife is razor sharp, the hinges took little-to-no breaking in, AND it's a magnet for compliments! Not to mention it looks MUCH more expensive than it really costs. Other servers are constantly asking to borrow it for their bottle presentations. I was a bit apprehensive about the shallow looking bottle opener, but it's worked like a charm so far.

I even used it during a job interview. Imagine the other server's face when we were asked to open a bottle of wine and she took out her dinky two-dollar wine key only to look over and see me flick this one out!

I'm so glad I bought two... though I think it will be quite a while before I need to resort to the back-up.

I open wine everyday that I work ... several times a night.
I bought this opener because I wanted something better than the ones the wine rep leaves behind for my staff to use (with an advert from a lower end wine we have by the glass).
This isn't that much better, and it's much bigger and heavier. Long and short, I'm back to using the double hinged throw away by "Pulltap's" (with Robert Talbot Vinyards on the body).

It does look nice, and now I have a wood-handled back up to the free one I've been using.

Purchased over a year for the high end restaurant that I work at. I always get many compliments on the wood inlay on it. The only qualm I have is the double hinged tab no longer stays closed on the body of the corkscrew. It just flops around which makes it hard to pinch on a pocket or something so it doesn't fall to the bottom of my apron. Overall unthought it's still chugging along. I may move to a different one just to see how I like those.

Horrible if your in the service industry. I bar tend at a busy high end restaurant and open numerous bottles a night. Let me tell you thing looks good but the hinge folds in on you all the time and when pulling up on the key the hinge always puts sharp pressure on the wine bottle lip and makes little puddle of shards of glass. I felt i wasted my money for sure!

The QC on this product is horrible. The hinge pin that holds the worm on comes out if you open it about 10-15 times. The worst part of it though is that it is actually dangerous in a very strange way. The spine is made of layers but it seems like some of the metal must have gotten a bad heat treatment or something because the tiny layers in between is crumbling off into tiny metal slivers. One about five occasions at work (I'm a bartender) I had to stop working and go remove a shard of metal from my hand. After about the fifth time I just threw it in the trash and borrowed a wine key off a coworker. I'm generally a pretty forgiving person but this product really is to be avoided.

Metal and real wood look great. Very sturdy feeling. Opens bottles easily. Way cheaper and simpler than more elaborate openers.

The bottle opener is backward (you have to hook the lip and push down on the opposite side to open them) and confuses a lot of people at first, but once you get the hang of it it works just fine.
