Book Description

April 14, 2003
“Someday, she’ll be my girl.” At the fifth grade honors program, three eleven-year-old boys are captivated by a brilliant little red-haired girl named Jeana Russell as she recites the poem she wrote, and each boy vows to win her heart. As they grow up on the Alabama Gulf Coast in the late seventies, one of the boys becomes Jeana’s best friend, one breaks her heart, and one becomes the love of her life. Jeana is an unpretentious heroine struggling to deal with the volatile and sometimes violent relationships the boys have with each other and with her. The road she travels to adulthood is paved with laughter, joy, tears, and heartache, as well as tough choices and their resulting consequences, but Jeana holds on through it all to the one thing she never questions: a love that’s true blue.

Review

This book has it all: romance, adventure, humor, and heartwarming moments. Once you start reading, it's extremely difficult to stop. -- Sara Weis, Sarasays.com, June 8, 2003

From the Publisher

True Blue Forever by Joyce Sterling Scarbrough is a book written for all the smart girls who are tired of sitting by and watching the best guys get duped by pretentious, shallow girls who only care about their "images." The heroine is a girl who refuses to be anything but herself, and she finds a guy whose character is as fine as his looks.

Although it is foremost a love story, True Blue Forever also has plenty of sports, teenage rivalries and raging hormones, seventies music and culture, and super-cool muscle cars. It's about being true to yourself and sticking to your beliefs, friendships that last a lifetime, holding on to your dreams, and taking the responsibility for choices you make.

And if you hate books with unsatisfying endings, consider this: when you read the last page of True Blue Forever, you'll hold it to your chest and say, "Ahhhh..."

More About the Author

The valedictorian of her high school graduating class, Joyce Sterling Scarbrough is an intelligent Southern woman weary of seeing herself and her peers portrayed in books and movies as either post-antebellum debutantes or barefoot hillbillies a la Daisy Duke, so all her heroines are smart, unpretentious women who refuse to be anyone but themselves. She's lived all her life in southern Alabama, she's the mother of three gifted children, and she's been married for 26 years to the love of her life.

In addition to her three novels, Joyce has five short stories featured in upcoming anthologies from L&L Dreamspell and Excalibur Press.

"True Blue Forever" takes the reader into a high school drama and it's so real at times it's as if you can open a locker door...Scarbrough tackles more than football players in this excellent novel about getting through the torturous teen years, and does it without the reader knowing it...until they are done reading and realize they've read a book and didn't actually live it. That's talent... and this author has plenty of it...I look forward to future books by this bright author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put this down!, August 6, 2003
This review is from: True Blue Forever (Paperback)
This book has humor, drama, an engaging heorine and a hunky hero that rival many a romance novel I have read. The author weaves a tale of young love, troubled teens, class clowns and mixes in the culture of the late 70's to bring together a recipe for a fabulous novel that transends genre and category for an enjoyable story that will make you cry, laugh, and wish to be young all over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, July 30, 2003

It only took me one day to read this novel! I couldn't put it down! The characters you will meet are easy to identify with. As a young adult myself I found that most of these teens could have been a best friend.

Plot is thick and will make you laugh, cry and smile. Through True Blue Forever you will watch as the characters grow. How their relationships with each other will change, become deeper.

Ms. Scarbrough is a talented author who writes fun, exciting literature. I am looking forward to any upcoming novels she may have.
