Disappointed,
By inditymom (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
I loved True to the Game and was so excited when I saw the sequel on the bookshelf. I bought the book and couldn't wait to get home to start reading. Disappointed does not even begin to explain how I felt about this book. I am convinced that a different person wrote the original book. This had to be one of the worst books I've ever read. The author did not even spend any time developing the characters or storylines. There is no way Gena would have done some of the things she did in this book. Who in the he** would put millions of dollars in a freakin locker while someone is following you? There are so many things in this book that are so utterly ridiculous that I could scream. This is not only poorly thought out and written the author didn't even bother to do the necessary research to make the characters in the story plausible. Especially the law enforcement. Why bother to bring up the question of Gena's parents if it wasn't going to be developed? I'm returning this trash to the store today. I didn't even bother to finish it.

Gena is Back!,
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
After the death of her boyfriend Quadir, Gena is back with a whole new set of problems. With Quadir's money stuffed in the trunk of her car, Gena is trying to keep a low profile while getting her life together. She is still so heart broken that she doesn't think she can love anybody else until she meets and falls in love with Jerrell Jackson. Unbeknownst to Gena, Jerrell is Quadir's arch enemy who is seeking revenge. Jerrell will stop at nothing to get back at Quadir's crew, even if he has to go through Gena first. If that wasn't enough, a mysterious person is following Gena all over the city. Quadir's old crew is having problems of their own when one of the crew members turns into a snitch.
True To the Game II is a wonderful sequel to True To the Game. Teri Woods effortlessly continued the story of Gena. This story picks up right where the first novel left off so it doesn't confuse the reader. Although this is a great story, there are a few things that readers may find a little perplexing. It's hard to believe that Gena would still be in the projects with Quadir's money lying around and that she wasn't more suspicious of Jerrell. There is a shocking ending that could lead to a third installment, but Woods would have a lot of explaining to do in order to pull it off properly. True To the Game II is a fast-paced, exciting read that will surely keep you on your toes. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert for Urban Reviews

Know When To Fold Them,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
TRUE TO THE GAME II picks up with a still mourning Gena and a trunkful of money. She doesn't stay sad for long as good Samaritan Jerrell enters the picture. What a cruel hand fate has dealt. Unbeknown to Gena, Jerrell is the very man that took her fiancé, Quadir, from her.
Teri is brave. I'll give her that. TRUE TO THE GAME, whether she actually wrote it or not though it bears her name, is a book that can hold its own. Coming up with a continuing storyline that stays "true" to the essence of its predecessor and is just as good if not better is no easy feat. In this case, it was a gamble that did not pay off. I was looking for some progression with returning characters and found none. I was looking for an entertaining storyline and didn't find it. Main character Gena in this sequel really had no personality at all. She just functioned and moved. What happened to the Gena of old? Like, Gena, the novel just functioned and moved. Even when something big happened, nothing much happened. What could have, and should have, been a good story was lost. Not every novel needs action and drama and this watered down sequel might be satisfying for some readers. Other, however, will get to the end not caring and wondering WHY Teri Woods even bothered. Sometimes it really is best to leave well enough alone. Reviewed by: Taye

don't buy, borrow,
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
If you just have to read this book, borrow it. It is boring, the language is choppy, and it lacks suspense. It shows no growth as a writer.

Rushed anti-climatic sequel,
By
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
I read True to the Game when it first came out. Enjoyed it very much. Saw that a sequel had finally been released. Purchased it. It was over before it even began. Too much focus on things that are irrelevant to the progression of the story. Character traits changing. The ending was HORRIBLE. Teri Woods had her one shot with True to the Game but she fell way short on this.

Game Over!,
This review is from: True to the Game II (Paperback)
If ever a book should not have been made, this was it. "True to the Game II" had no plot, purpose or point. The characters were dull. The action was drab. Simply put, this book should have not been made. Teri Woods should have let a real author pen this one.

This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. Given that True to the Game is such a classic book I was expecting so much more from Teri Woods. Everyone knows that sequels are never as good as the original but she is just grasping at straws here. This book was not well thought out or executed. There was no plot and the characters had no personality. In my opinion this book was rushed out in a lame attempt to make up for the fact that she cannot produce the remaining books for the series of Dutch or Deadly Reigns. I would have to agree with the reviewer who said this was a unnecessay waste of trees.
