5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping it all in tact
Teri Woods fable True To The Game is a compelling story of the games
that are played in the streets; a story of some people's reality.
It's a heart wrenching story of drugs, love, and the love of money.

Gena, a young girl barely legal, was raised in the Richard Allen
projects in Philly. She's smart, witty, and knows what her heart
desires...

2.0 out of 5 stars An Ok book 2/1/2
Based on the reviews of this book I know alot of people won't agree with me but oh well. People have been telling me for months and months to get this book. Well I finally got it and it really didn't live up to the hype. It wasn't a horrible book but it wasn't that good either. (REAL NAME)
Teri Woods fable True To The Game is a compelling story of the games
that are played in the streets; a story of some people's reality.
It's a heart wrenching story of drugs, love, and the love of money.

Gena, a young girl barely legal, was raised in the Richard Allen
projects in Philly. She's smart, witty, and knows what her heart
desires. Growing up in the projects, she comes to the realization that
money is power and the more money you have the more power you have.
She thrived on fun and spending money and with her spending habits a
regular nine to five would not suffice.

As Gena mingle with the street lords and leaders, she finds true
love. Quadir, a young handsome man with aspirations of being a
dentist, finds himself forced into the streets as a means to help his
family survive. Yet, Quadir was sucked into a life of fast money and
women at his beck and call. It was a life hard to let go of.

After Gena and Quadir found true love, he realizes that he was a
street made millionaire and was ready to give it all up. However,
before he is able to turn over a new leaf, death and destruction would
claim the life of many.
Leaving Gena hopeless and poor forcing her to realize that she has
come too far to turn back to the projects. Just when Gena feels that
she is at her lowest she stumble across what she needs to brings her
back to her one love...the love of money.

Teri Woods does a wonderful job of bringing the realities of street-
life and placing it at the hands of her readers. If youre looking for
a love story with street-life virtue, this is the book you want to
read. I highly recommend True To The Game.

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the Game of Life, December 13, 2002
By A Customer
True to the Game by Teri Woods is an incredibly interesting book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The way it is written and the way the characters are described, it's just like reading a story written by a friend or someone close to me. This is the kind of life most teenagers are living nowadays, fast cars, drugs, violence, and sex.
Even though the book has misspelled words and the grammar isn't so perfect, the book in general is incredible. The main characters, Gena, Sahirah, and Quadir live in a life full of drugs, sex and violence. The setting takes place in Harlem, New York and in Philadelphia around the 1990's. Gena and Quadir are living a Cinderella-type of love, in a ghetto/dangerous way. The story has an easy to read plot.
I recommend this book to everyone. Once you start reading it, you would not put it down to until you have finished it. Most teenagers are living in denial about how their life is perfect but this book is a reflection of their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, February 20, 2003
By
Shakirah (Philadelphia Pa) - See all my reviews
True to the Game was the best book I have ever read. I started reading lots of books when My boyfriend got locked up. So yes I've read The coldest Winter Ever, Be More Careful, when You look at me and more. Don't get me wrong they were all great books but True to the game touched my heart. It's the type of book you can finish in oneday because you can't wait to see what is going to happen next. I know guys like Quadir are the worst to have but somehow good girls always fall for his type. When the character's in the book cried, I cried as if it was me. When they had a great time I was there to see. If there is ever a movie and I'm hoping it will be. I would be honored to play Gina If I could get the opportunity. By the way thanks for writting a book that people in the hood can relate to. To the real Gina aka I don't know who thanks girl for sharing. Peace

2.0 out of 5 stars An Ok book 2/1/2, September 1, 2002
Based on the reviews of this book I know alot of people won't agree with me but oh well. People have been telling me for months and months to get this book. Well I finally got it and it really didn't live up to the hype. It wasn't a horrible book but it wasn't that good either. When I read this book I kept thinking this story was trying to be a subpar "The Coldest Winter Ever" but it never quite made it. Gena and Qua were ok characters but there were too many other characters in the book that made the storyline too junky. Another thing that bothered me about this book is the countless grammatical errors and misspelled words. I'm sorry people but that is not acceptable in anyone's book, self-published or not. Please read The Coldest Winter Ever to see a true example of how a story like this should be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the Game, May 2, 2000
I really enjoyed this book, reason being I lived that life and almost lost my life and freedom. No money in the world is worth losing your life or freedom. This book was off the hook I read it in less than 24 hours. I went to rags to riches and from riches to a normal rag life. The hustling game is not the move in the 2000 they giving away prison time in double digits....New York

4.0 out of 5 stars YOU CAN'T LIE IF YOU TRUE TO YOUR GAME., December 6, 2002
By A Customer
This book was a very interesting and enjoyable book. I feel that this book was so good because it reminds me of the life people live in the streets of New York and Philly. To tell you the truth, I'm not really a book reader, but after I read the summary on the book True to the Game it really grabbed my attention. I asked my teacher if I could read it and it came out to be one of the best books I ever read. This book was about a guy named Quadir and a girl named Gena who met at a party and eventually got together and became something. This book True to the Game, which was mainly about the game on the streets, was one of he best books base on the streets in this time period (1988). Gena and Quadir found themselves caught up in the vicious world of drugs and money, only to find that success in this game is not easy to win. I feel that in order to live the life on the streets, you have to be from the streets or else you would be lost in the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep the message, lose the editor., August 22, 2001

True to the game was an excellent fable; however, the writing was terrible, which is the reason why I reduced the review from five stars to four. I really enjoyed the plot, which often caused me to smile, laugh, become livid and cry, throughout certain scenes. I believe that it sends an important message to my peers and to a much larger audience. In my opinion, the synopsis of the book is the fallen of a young couple in love and thier friends, who struggled throughout their childhoods, due to the temptations and glamour of fast money and lavish luxuries. Overall, I believe that the lesson to be learned from reading this book is that anything that comes too easy in life is not worth having, due to the consequences, which can sometimes mean a life.
