Review

"Street legend Woods goes hardcover but stays True to the Game." (Library Journal on ALIBI )

"Street-lit pioneer Woods (True to the Game) makes her hardcover debut with this gritty, botched robbery tale. While giving a sympathetic voice to her financially desperate heroine-who entertains no fantasies of knights in shining armor and uses sex to get what she wants-Woods observes that easy cash comes with a steep price. Her fans are sure to demand this; buy multiple copies." (Library Journal on ALIBI )

"Woods writes with feeling and a strong sense of her Philadelphia setting; in addition her characters manage to become more than just stereotypes they initially appear to be. Fast-paced and exciting, Alibi is an action-filled story about the desperate life of one urban girl and the of consequences trying to break away. Woods' following will snap this up, but it can find a wider audience with thriller readers who like George Pelecanos' The Turnaround and with fans of the urban crime drama The Wire." (Booklist on ALIBI )

"This New Jersey author has the urban fiction genre locked up." (Sunday Star Ledger on ALIBI )

"Urban fiction fans will welcome the melodramatic final entry in bestseller Woods's True to the Game trilogy, which vividly depicts the 1990s drug culture." (Publishers Weekly on TRUE TO THE GAME III )

"Woods keeps it raw in this gutsy sequel that features the round-the-way girl who fell hard for Quadir, the millionaire drug dealer." (Essence magazine on TRUE TO THE GAME II )

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping it all in tact, January 23, 2003

Stacy D. Campbell (Author of Secretes www.stacydcampbell.com) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Teri Woods fable True To The Game is a compelling story of the games
that are played in the streets; a story of some people's reality.
It's a heart wrenching story of drugs, love, and the love of money.

Gena, a young girl barely legal, was raised in the Richard Allen
projects in Philly. She's smart, witty, and knows what her heart
desires. Growing up in the projects, she comes to the realization that
money is power and the more money you have the more power you have.
She thrived on fun and spending money and with her spending habits a
regular nine to five would not suffice.

As Gena mingle with the street lords and leaders, she finds true
love. Quadir, a young handsome man with aspirations of being a
dentist, finds himself forced into the streets as a means to help his
family survive. Yet, Quadir was sucked into a life of fast money and
women at his beck and call. It was a life hard to let go of.

After Gena and Quadir found true love, he realizes that he was a
street made millionaire and was ready to give it all up. However,
before he is able to turn over a new leaf, death and destruction would
claim the life of many.
Leaving Gena hopeless and poor forcing her to realize that she has
come too far to turn back to the projects. Just when Gena feels that
she is at her lowest she stumble across what she needs to brings her
back to her one love...the love of money.

Teri Woods does a wonderful job of bringing the realities of street-
life and placing it at the hands of her readers. If youre looking for
a love story with street-life virtue, this is the book you want to
read. I highly recommend True To The Game.

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the Game of Life, December 13, 2002
By A Customer
True to the Game by Teri Woods is an incredibly interesting book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The way it is written and the way the characters are described, it's just like reading a story written by a friend or someone close to me. This is the kind of life most teenagers are living nowadays, fast cars, drugs, violence, and sex.
Even though the book has misspelled words and the grammar isn't so perfect, the book in general is incredible. The main characters, Gena, Sahirah, and Quadir live in a life full of drugs, sex and violence. The setting takes place in Harlem, New York and in Philadelphia around the 1990's. Gena and Quadir are living a Cinderella-type of love, in a ghetto/dangerous way. The story has an easy to read plot.
I recommend this book to everyone. Once you start reading it, you would not put it down to until you have finished it. Most teenagers are living in denial about how their life is perfect but this book is a reflection of their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, February 20, 2003
By
Shakirah (Philadelphia Pa) - See all my reviews
True to the Game was the best book I have ever read. I started reading lots of books when My boyfriend got locked up. So yes I've read The coldest Winter Ever, Be More Careful, when You look at me and more. Don't get me wrong they were all great books but True to the game touched my heart. It's the type of book you can finish in oneday because you can't wait to see what is going to happen next. I know guys like Quadir are the worst to have but somehow good girls always fall for his type. When the character's in the book cried, I cried as if it was me. When they had a great time I was there to see. If there is ever a movie and I'm hoping it will be. I would be honored to play Gina If I could get the opportunity. By the way thanks for writting a book that people in the hood can relate to. To the real Gina aka I don't know who thanks girl for sharing. Peace
