Book Description

4 and upP and up
A Parable in the truest sense, this story teaches children the meaning of Jesus' words, "Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant". The concept of royalty pervades the Bible, and this book offers an opportunity for parents and teachers to teach children about being royalty in God's family. Full-color illustrations.

Review

**Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Gold Medallion nominee 1993

The story has all the elements of the best in fairy tales--a faraway land, a generous king, and a beautiful princess. . . .The story is succinct, yet moving. The king and princess are rendered in large, warm, medieval-style illustrations that well suit its fairy-tale quality. Boys and girls alike will be drawn into this charming tale, and no one will miss the point on the last page. My only criticism is that this book's cover isn't adorned with gold and precious stones, because this tale is truly a treasure. -- Bookstore Journal, March 1993 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly four million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 100 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels.

Now that her two children have reached their twenties, Angie and her youth-pastor husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.

When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Combating the Myths of Typical Princess Stories, January 27, 2005
This review is from: The True Princess (Hardcover)
I love reading this book to my 6 year old daughter. It is such a refreshing alternative to other princess stories (which focus on physical beauty and marrying a wealthy, handsome prince).
This book highlights that a true princess is not the one who is beautiful, dressed in fine gowns, being waited on & pampered by servants. A true princess is one who is kind, loving, humble, and a servant.
I highly recommend reading this book to your daughter often, especially if she is like mine, who happens to love any princess story.
Another excellent book to read to your daughter if she is really into princess stories is Princess and the Kiss. Its story is based on a princess who waits for and carefully screens all of her suitors before she gives away her kiss and her hand in marriage.
These 2 books break the myths that you need to be beautiful and be married to a handsome, charming, & wealthy prince in order to live happily ever after.

This book is well written and has beautiful illustrations. Even my son likes this book! It is a wonderful gift to give along with dress up clothes. What a beautiful lesson to teach little girls about being beautiful inside. It will also teach little boys what to look for in a truely beautiful woman when they grow up. Excellent fairytale!

5.0 out of 5 stars A VIRTUOUS DAUGHTER! She is worth far moe than rubies!, December 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The True Princess (Hardcover)
Dear Parent!

HOW RARE!!!

We looked near and far for a book like this!

Christian parents are deeply concerned with raising their daughters to be pure for marriage. Where on earth can you find books or movies to help reinforce these beautiful ideals that the Lord has given us? How do you raise your precious daughter to be a Proverbs 31 woman... a virtuous woman?

This book was one of two we finally found. It focussed on the ages 3 to 12. Nice age range! Our girl is 9. How do you talk about sex without actually dealing with the complex things they are not ready for yet? A book like this gets to the -root- now... you deal with the nitty gritty later when they are better prepared to deal with it. The words used are not sexual in any form in this book.

We also recommend:

- "The Princess And The Kiss" by Jennie Bishop

- Items from "Pearables" website. (also for boys!)

- Items from "Doorposts" website. (also for boys!)

- "Christian-courtship" website. (If your girl is older!)

Enjoy! And happy hunting for products that instill healthy modesty, christian etiquette, honor and such!!!
