Editorial Reviews

2009 debut release. Produced by producer wunderkind Lexxx (Crystal Castles, Esser), True Romance is a triumphant album by a truly modern band who comprise of keyboardist/lead vocalist Gwilym Gold, bassist Ben Moorhouse and drummer Alexis Nunez (both of whom sing backing vocals). It's a superbly stylish record expressed in a dazzling collaboration of colors, eras and styles. Guitar-free, Psychedelic and literate, Golden Silvers deal in huge, unabashed melodies, inspirational songwriting and dashing, groove-laden Pop. Their sound is as much influenced by the mix of Daft Punk, Beach Boys and giddy Indie-Electro mash-ups they heard on the dance floor at Trash, as it is by the Dr. Dre and Marvin Gaye tunes they danced to at Soul and Hip Hop clubs or the Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Prince and Hendrix albums they were weaned on. 10 tracks. XL. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retro-pop, weird but fab, October 27, 2009

Leave it to the Brits to deconstruct '50's American pop, run it through a Cuisinart and come up with something unique. There isn't a bad track on this CD, except for "Shakes," which in my opinion should have been left off. BTW, the iTunes version of the album includes an added track, "Locked Up My Head," which is well worth having. This band doesn't sound like anyone else, which is a major plus these days of cookie-cutter acts all trying to sound like "American Idol" contestants. The vocals are fluid and happy-making without being at all sugary. Take a listen and judge for yourselves. This is a quirky, offbeat, but finally, very satisfying CD. And, yes, you can dance to it.
