This review is from: The True Story of Jesse James (Paperback)
This book is an interesting look at the life, times, and relationships of America's most famous outlaw. There is no way to know if all of the conversations in the book actually took place, but one could speculate that they're probably not far off the mark. Unlike many other books on Jesse James this one is more of a story format. Alot are bogged down with to many other historical facts (the war, border conflicts, etc.) that makes for slow reading on the subject (Jesse James). Not so with this book. It makes for a good story and interesting read by staying on the life of Jesse and not getting bogged down by to many other historical facts about the time. That being said however, there are some questionable facts here. It seems as though the author has either gotten a few details wrong, or just omitten a few. I have purchased and studied quite a few products (books and dvds) on Jesse and have become accustomed to contradictions between them. The contradictions in these other titles are minor and justifiable, for much of Jesse's life and career he and others were covering up their crimes with lies and as much confusion as possible. But this book seems to miss a few easy details. Having studied many other titles on this subject, I can almost tell by a list what details will be contradicting. This book has added a whole new list of inaccuracies. It seems as though the author has tried to keep the Jesse James legend being more of a victim pushed to a life of crime than someone who took matters into his own hands and not be a victim of the times. Bottom line, if anyone is looking for a factual book on Jesse this isn't it.
