What a blast to read this one aloud!!,

This review is from: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Paperback)
Sure it's a good way to get your youngsters to start to think about the possibility that there is more than one "side" to a story, but that would just make this book sound "educational" and where would be the fun in THAT!?
This book is a delightful story that lends itself to ridiculous levels of "hamming" things up when reading it aloud. Poor, poor wolf with the terrible cold that just needs to bake a cake for his dear old granny. Even my oldest child (12 yob) sticks around to hear me read this "one more time" to my younger children.

A beautifully done spoof on the 3 Little Pigs!,
This review is from: The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! (Hardcover)
This is an irresistibly silly, great work of comic art!Yes indeed, there is always another side to a story! A. Wolf explains his side of the classic tale in an almost plausible and sympathetic way. It was all an accident! It wasn't his fault! He didn't mean to sneeze those flimsy little houses down, and now would you have him walk away from a perfectly good ham dinner? This book is great fun to read, and the art contains amazing little extras that add another layer to the humor. Of course, the audience has to know the old version of the 3 Little Pigs story; not one of the modern, watered-down, nobody-gets-hurt modified versions... A perennial favorite.

I read the book, "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" by Jon Scieszka. This is a fantastic childrens' book based on the original story of the three little pigs. I really enjoyed the creative, detailed illustrations and the interesting plot. According to this version of "The Three Little Pigs", the wolf is completely innocent. I also liked the fluent writing style of the book. Reading this book, you gain the understanding of the wolf's side of the story, which is not often read. I would recommend "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" to someone who enjoys humorous books. I think that this book is one that both parents and children can enjoy reading together! I really enjoyed this book and i think you will to!

There are always two sides to every story!,

This review is from: True Story of the 3 Little Pigs (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book. It is not only entertaining, but educational. Because it tells a well-known story from a different point-of-view, it clearly demonstrates to children (and reminds us adults as well) that there are always two sides to any story. A very enjoyable story indeed!

Poor Big Bad Wolf - he always gets a bad rap. But now he is here telling his side of the story. According to him, it's all about a sneeze and a cup of sugar. Once again, Smith's illustrations are highly amusing, as is the story of a misunderstood wolf who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (Riiiiiiiight). I love how the story has been jazzed up with phrases such as - "Can you believe it? I mean, who in his right mind would build a house of straw?" (as said by the wolf). This book really is short and sweet and hopefully it will make readers think about whose side of the story is correct.

Talk about "the flip side!" This book was great. Jon Sceiszka has done a great job of protraying the wolf as a inocent victim. The true story was about a sneeze and a cup of sugar. The way that he inter-weaved the two stories was perfect. Jon told the wolfs side well without changing the original pattern of the story. I am a college student and a future teacher of America. I really enjoyed reading this book. I remember when it was first released and my 4th grade teacher read it in class! I loved it then and I love it now! This book is the perfect book to teach point of view, when comparing it to the traditional three little pigs story. It's also a good way to discuss the impact of media.

AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT,
This review is from: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Paperback)
This is a wonderful, delightful and simply funny off take on the old three little pigs story. It is told by the wolf and the story is through his eyes. Now whether you choose to believe his story or not, is completely up to you. The wolf is able to tell a pretty convincing tale, but you just don't really know. This story could be pulled from the newspaper of any of our large city papers today. The author has a true wit about his writing that is appealing to both young and old. The art work is great and fits quite well with the text. Recommend this one quite highly.

Now we know the OTHER side of the story...,

I believe that everyone has at least one favorite children's book. It may be one that brings back a good memory of being read to, or it may be one that can still put a smile on your face and make you laugh. For me, one of those books is The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. I first read this book about thirteen years ago when my mom bought it for me. Nothing at that time could have made me happier than this book. The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! is a hilarious retelling of the classic The Three Little Pigs. Only this time, the story is told from the perspective of the "Big Bad Wolf", named A. Wolf in this story. A. Wolf's version tells all about his side of the story. At the beginning of this book, A. Wolf explains, "I don't know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thing got started, but it's all wrong". A. Wolf says that all he was trying to do was borrow a cup of sugar from the pigs so that he could bake his dear old granny a birthday cake. It was all a big misunderstanding, at least according to A. Wolf.
Not only is this one of the best written children's stories I have seen, it is also one of the best illustrated. The author Jon Scieszka is known for his off-beat children's books, and I think they are an excellent way to get children to read, because he makes his stories so much fun for all ages. I am now twenty-one years old and just re-read this book and it still made me laugh out loud. As a child, I could not get enough of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good laugh, and who doesn't want that?

Did you know that the wolf is really innocent? He just had a cold. This book can be a good introduction to the concept of two sides to every story. It's creative and enjoyable to read.

This was a great way of approaching the oft-heard story of the Three Little Pigs. Through fanciful illustrations and strong voice (the voice of the Wolf, of course) we hear the "true" version of what really happened to the pigs. This is perfect for reading with children, or for classroom discussions of voice, perspective, etc. in any grade
